Well done Quinn Direct

Been with Quinn Direct for 2 years now and my policy is almost up. They quoted me €367 for renewal and while a few others are slightly cheaper on the face of it, they charge admin fees which can add up, and Quinn don't.

So I phoned Quinn and asked was it the best they could do, and 30 seconds later the very polite girl I spoke to knocked 14% off, bringing my renewal down to €316!

All I can say (again) is well done Quinn Direct, that's how to do business.

Nice to see someone getting a decent insurance deal.

My 3rd party commercial policy costs me more than that!!! :(

They refused to match a competitors quote for me so I left them.

Meh...why didnt they give you the €316 in the first place instead of trying to fleece you of an extra €51 and giving you the hassle of ringing other insurance comps ?? If a company does this to me, I leave them on principal

im on my 3rd policy with quinn and reasonably happy but last night i tried to change my vehicle area of use from carlow to monaghan as im home from college for the summer they wanted €80 for me to do it online and then prob another €40 admin fee in sept to change it back so it will be staying as carlow for time being

They are just doing the same as the customers- trying to get the deal that suits them best. I see no harm in it.

I'm awaiting my renewal quote off them relatively shortly, wonder can they come close to the just under 50% reduction I've managed to get elsewhere...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,389 ✭✭✭cianclarke

I'm not looking forward to my quinn renewal, and it's looking very likely I'll be going to a broker elsewhere..
Only problem is 20 + bmw 2.5 litre = "ahahaha yeah no" everywhere but Quinn.

have you looked at the terms and conditions of the new quote (ie. the excess, windscreen cover, etc)

If you pay by monthly DD then you have to pay extra (as it's like a finance agreement or a loan or whatever). Are you saying they've waived that? Or are admin fees something else?

ive been with quinn for 4 years and not a single bit of hassel, got my renewal quote which is 511euro, the nearest anyone else has come was 790 through a broker. AXA Hibernian etc were insane quotes, one quote i got was 2300 through a diff broker.

Ill be stayin put for awhile longer.

Good quote , most companies are upping their premiums from last year , QD seem to be bucking the trend

I have 2.0 petrol car and was insured with Quinn last year for 1300e. They've send me a renewal offer for 900e for this year. FBD offered 308e so I said goodbye to Quinn.

I pay all up front as car insurance companies don't do good rates on finance (a bank loan is a lot cheaper if you want to pay in installments).

By admin fees I mean for example insure.ie charge a €25 "admin fee" for every temporary substitution (or change of car). Quinn don't charge. I do a lot of temporary subs, 6 on the last policy for example.

I always phone around/get online quotes. It's the only way to be sure I've got the best deal.

I can't get a quote from them because they still insist that I owe them money from about 15 years ago when they feld I'd should renew a policy with them (despite me telling them that I didn't want it).
Apparently I'm not the only one like this!

I had a new windscreen on the car the other day all paid for by Insurance with FBD. I asked the guy how much a rear screen is and he said it could be anywhere near €900. I said phew for glass insurance. He said that Quinn will screw people and barely pay 50% towards the repair of any glass.

It might be worth checking the small print. Cheap prices are cheap for a reason.

My wife had a similar problem with them a number of years (10, maybe) back. A quick phonecall to the Ombudsman sorted it out.

I already claimed a new windscreen off them last year (thread is on here somewhere). All paid up and handled by them. Couldn't have been more painless.

Quinn generally dont chase money from anytime before 1999, unless its a huge amount, then is a dept manager decision.

Quinn DO charge admin charges for any change that requires new documents to be sent out to the customer. its €25 or £17. If the overall charge for the change is under a certain amount, its usually just wiped automatically by the system and no charge is incurred.

Another insurance company is paying the windscreen guy, and they said quinn will screw people.... shocker.

My ex got a crack in her windscreen that caused the whole thing to be replaced. It was sorted the next day and no probs claiming from quinn.

I know, or alternatively I could write to them but feck them. I'm not wasting the effort of a call simply to get a quote from the insurance equivalent of Ryanair!

Seemingly its for one months cover (before they discontinued my alleged policy). They never chased me but the last time I called them for a quote, they told me that they would not provide a quote until my account "balance" was cleared.
I have no intention of ever ringing them back given this experience (along with other customers experiences)!

I can tell you Quinn will be pushing hard for my business this year. I'm hearing people saying that they are not as competitive as they used to be.

I will have 2 yrs no claims bonus come the end of July. At present, I'm paying 709 (142 of that was to cover the upgrade to comprehensive, as I changed car at the start of Apr). I will be interested to find out what premium they will offer.

A temporary sub triggers a letter confirming cover, but not a new policy. They have never charged me for temp subs, and indeed I'll be doing another one tomorrow week as it happens.

I'm with insure.ie and I've switched my insurance from one car to another a few times and they never charged me anything. I've never paid a penney extra to them other than the premium.

WRT Quinn, I've never gotten a competitive quote from them. Obviously I don't fit into their target market.

The 3rd €25 admin fee they charged me broke the camel's back and I decided to leave them mid-policy because of it (the benefit to having loads of NCB). Was a few years back tho, might have changed since then.

Excess is slightly higher but nowhere near the difference in price. It has windscreen cover, unlike Quinn where its an optional extra even on fully comp. It hasn't got breakdown assist which I don't need anyway - my car comes with manufacturer Europe wide AA Homestart/Rescue Plus cover until its warranty expires which isn't until mid 2012.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,686 ✭✭✭JHMEG

Did you change your car recently, MYOB? What is it? That warranty is very impressive.

    August 08.

FiatCare 4 years/100,000km warranty with 4 years/unlimited distance European breakdown assist; its standard on most older design Fiats in Ireland. In other countries they get 2 years and 6 months AA but Fiat Ireland have 15 years of reliability history to try and erase!

Some of the newer ones have a 5 year/unlimited distance warranty  (with exceptions for taxi use obviously!).

Yes. It is truth. I can prove this. When I got an offer from FBD went to Quinn next morning and asked if they can offer the same. They were smiling at me.I'm now with Fbd and bought a new set of tyres for the money I saved. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,686 ✭✭✭JHMEG

I realise no single insurance company is the best in all cases. FBD were off the scale for me and wouldn't insure me last year as I had a "performance car" as they called it.

I changed cover yesterday permanently to a different car and it was free. No admin charges or anything, Anytime I've changed cars or had to change to a car temperarely, its always been free

It's amazing i was with 123 but had to cancel last week as they wouldnt't indemnify me with my new job, rang around and no one was near the price, went to the local axa office and they gave a great quote, way cheaper than by phone. sometimes it pays to visit the places locally

Please Patrickc tell me you declared to your new insurance company that you use your car in connection with your employers business???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,056 ✭✭✭Tragedy

Found quinn never willing to budge on quotes. Twice had them undercut by several hundred euro, and both times the people on the phone just wanted to go through the details of the policy with me only to say at the end "if you went TPF&T.."

    Geh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 762 ✭✭✭irisheddie85

Im insured with quinn and they have always given cheaper quotes except for when on a provisional, then it was hibernian with ignition course. I have moved my policy between 3 cars in a year and even on to a transit to move house and never got charged anything extra by quinn for doing this.

They're the Ryanair of insurance companies.

    I hate Quinn...Please read this

In 2002 I had a choice between an Accord and a Laguna to buy for my wife. Quinn quoted £250 less for the Laguna over a year. We bought the Accord but after 3 months we sold it because my wife hated it. We then bought a Laguna and presumed the insurance would be cheaper. At this point Quinn told us that both cars would cost the same to insure. I explained that 3 months earlier there was a £250 difference and even gave them the quote refrence number. They said in response that quotes change all the time. I asked who I was speaking to and then asked for a manager. The manager stuck to the company line but after a long argument she agreed to look into it and get back to us. Never happened. Called again, got the same answer and when I asked to speak to the last person I talked to I was told that there was nobody by that name . So I decided to play them at there own game. The wife called them , changed her name and address by moving next door but gave all details the very same i.e occupation, date of birth etc etc and got a quote for a " Renault Laguna " . Would you beleive it £250 cheaper than the Accord. I then called them back explained what we had just done even giving them the new quote number and asked them to please explain what was going on. Got a lot of bluster and a promise that someone one look into it and call us back.....never happened. So we cancelled our policy with them and eneded up getting the car insured for £30 less than Quinns best quote. Mad stuff. Never ever will I use Quinn again

Its called doing business! I bet there's a lot of places you dont go on "principal" so.
Why would they drop by €51 for nothing, in this case it was to be a competitor for business.

Thats so true about quinn direct they just change their mind about quotes (its happened to me before)!! oh the trouble I've had with them:mad: I wont even go into it now or I'l get mad!!lol
