    Hi,

my best friend has just got engaged and i'm wondering what to get them as an engagement present. They live in London and are renting, and plans to move back to Ireland in a few years so any housey stuff wouldn't be suitable!!! She's the first of my friends to get engaged so don't have a clue what to get her?
    Any help is appreciated.

you know your friend better than us but some suggestions
-something to help plan the wedding (wedding diary, wedding folder,cd of cheesy wedding music...)
    - take them out for fancy dinner next time they're homw, if they're going to be saving for a wedding, they'll be cutting back on this type of thing

A card? surely a present isn't necessary, the wedding will cost you enough!

We got loads of bottles of champagne when we got engaged! Until then we'd never given a present for engagement. Since then I've given champagne or a really nice sparkling wine for a gift for engagement (reasonable bottles are available in the likes of O'Brien's wine). Steer clear of the like of expensive moet etc... They're not great value for money and a reasonable bottle of sparkling would fit the bill nicely.

Only parents got us present when we got engaged, and a couple of aunties etc. i was really shocked as never thought of engagement pressies, I never got any of my friends any, and never would have expected anything - cards are lovely though, i still have all mine up 3 months later!! :pac:

rich man and a poor man both in a store that sells EVERYTHING!
buying their engagement presents of course...
both have picked what they want for their partner and are now both standing at the check out --- waiting to pay...

one looking up the other the poor man decides to ask?

(poor man) so what did you buy your wife?
(rich man) a porche and a diamond ring.
(poor man) WHOA WHAT --- why the 2?
(rich man) if she doesnt like the porche she will love the diamond ring and if
she doesnt like the diamond ring she will love the porche!
(poor man) sighs... and says fair point.

the rich man then asks the same question back.
(poor man) sighs again and says i bought her a pair of slipper and a dildo
(rich man) bewildered looking says why the 2?
(poor man) if she doesnt like the slippers she can go and fcuk herself:pac:

Whoah!!! People give presents for Engagements now???

Fair enough a few years ago when every was loaded, or at least thought they were, but now? Nah a card, and maybe at a push a bottle of Champagne but make sure they share it with ya!!

I don't think that most people give engagement presents all the time, but the OP said her best friend.

I've been at about half a dozen weddings in the past year, I've only given an engagement present to my best friend. I've known her since childhood. I don't think it's necessary otherwise.

That's fair enuffski, but in that case surely the OP knows her friend better than anybody here!

I didn't get any engagement presents :( Just a few cards!Don't think they're necessary really.

My best friend did take me out for a meal though and a few drinks though and I loved it!Alternatively how about a girly day when she's home next?Maybe a spa day for the two of ye?
