I have just recovered from a bad stomach bug which resulted in spending the better part of a week on the toilet bowl. I have eaten virtually no solids in that time, having to make do with Dioralyte (a powder to replace lost body salts) and the odd slice of toast. I have lost in the region of 10lbs as a result and need to regain the weight asap, with championship football less than 3 weeks away. Im looking for a fast effective way to regain the weight, without resorting to eating 2 kebabs a day. Im 6ft 2 and weighed just over 14stone prior to this illness, although im down to less than 13 1/2 now. Would eating the tried and tested high carb + protein shake be sufficient? And if so what shake would best suit my needs? Thanks in advance

Drink Lots of full fat milk and eat nuts too. You could easily munch trow 100gms in 2minutes and theres about 5-600 calories in 100gms nuts. Brazil, almonds, hazlenuts, pine nuts etc

most of whats lost is likely fluid - drink plenty of water.

Eat normally - maybe throw in a couple of protein shakes a day - but i wouldn't worry too much about it

Yes, it is very easy to lose water, I can drop 5-7lb overnight on a good drinking binge. IN that time you probably emptied your bowels properly too.

To lose 10lb of fat would in theory require a deficit of 35,000kcal. Now if you were sitting about while sick at your size you were probably using 2500kcal, maybe less, just resting. So even if you ate nothing at all for 10 days it would only be 25,000kcal.

Maybe stick with the dioralites too as they will make you reabsorb the water better. If I was sick I would be lashing down the protein shakes with whole milk.
