I realise most people (including myself) are mainly looking forward to the USA game and first Lions game but there's a third match this weekend with a slight Irish interest. Baa-Baas v England. Something for nearly everyone with 3 Leinster, a Munster and an Ulster player. Can't wait to see that backrow of Collins, Betsen and Elsom in operation also.

    Barbarians team to face England

15 Ben Blair (Cardiff Blues & New Zealand)
14 Doug Howlett (Munster & New Zealand)
13 Josh Lewsey (London Wasps & England)
    12 Gordon D'Arcy (Leinster & Ireland)
11 Iain Balshaw (Gloucester Rugby & England)
    10 Glen Jackson (Saracens)
9 Justin Marshall (Saracens & New Zealand)
1 Clarke Dermody (London Irish & New Zealand)
2 Schalk Brits (Stormers & South Africa)
3 Greg Somerville (Gloucester Rugby & New Zealand)
4 Martin Corry (Leicester Tigers & England, captain)
5 Chris Jack (Saracens & New Zealand)
6 Jerry Collins (Toulon & New Zealand)
7 Serge Betsen (London Wasps & France)
8 Rocky Elsom (Leinster & Australia)
    Replacements
16 Sebastien Bruno (Sale Sharks & France)
    17 B J Botha (Ulster & South Africa)
    18 Paul Tito (Cardiff Blues)
19 Phil Waugh (Waratahs & Australia)
20 Chris Whitaker (Leinster & Australia)
21 Mike Catt (London Irish & England)
    22 Ratu Nasiganiyavi (Waratahs)

Isn't Ratu Nasiganiyavi that giant winger from last years Australian's U21 WC team? Also i swore i saw a invitation to Sonny B Williams would of been interesting to see him play at international level. Anyway chances are this team could winning considering the god awful team Martin Johnson picked to face it.

    England
    15 Delon Armitage (London Irish)
    14 Ben Foden (Northampton Saints)
    13 Jamie Noon (Newcastle Falcons)
    12 Jordan Turner-Hall (Harlequins)*
    11 Matt Banahan (Bath Rugby)*
    10 Andy Goode (CA Brive)
    9 Danny Care (Harlequins)
    1 Tim Payne (London Wasps)
    2 Dylan Hartley (Northampton Saints)
    3 David Wilson (Newcastle Falcons)*
    4 Steve Borthwick (Saracens, captain)
    5 Louis Deacon (Leicester Tigers)
    6 Chris Robshaw (Harlequins)*
    7 Lewis Moody (Leicester Tigers)
    8 Nick Easter (Harlequins)

    Replacements
    16 Steve Thompson (CA Brive)
    17 Nick Wood (Gloucester Rugby)*
    18 Chris Jones (Sale Sharks)
    19 Steffon Armitage (London Irish)
    20 James Haskell (London Wasps)
    21 Paul Hodgson (London Irish)
    22 Tom May (Newcastle Falcons)*

Aswell as Jamie Noon, Andy Goode, TIM PAYNE! and they ever present Nick Easter  MJ really hasn't got a clue. Why Moody is starting infront of Steffon is beyond me. I mean any person with half a brain would of logically picked this instead.

    12.J Turner-Hall
    13.D Armitage
    15.B.Foden

Also it's a bit rich for the RFU to go on how if you got to France you won't get picked for England but low and behold Goode, Thompson, Haskell, Jamie Noon and Tom May all get selected .

Tell me about it. Should be at full back, with Armitage replacing that donkey Noon at 13. What does Matt Tait have to do to get picked, or is he injured?

Poor old Hask, from Lions tour to benching for a rubbish England team! (Albeit that is a really good backrow)

To be fair to Easter, I was skeptical of him as much as anyone else but I think he has proved he is a quality player. Outstanding season for Quins by all accounts. He may not be the flashiest of 8's but he is old school: big and physical. Always goes forward.

Tait and Cueto are supposedly injured thus the odd wing selections.

But there are far better 8's in Engerland and sadly for a quality player like Tom Guest who is twice the player Easter is imo has to constantly wait as a number 2. While he has great hands he's done some pretty plonkerish things during the 6N and really isn't one of the future at all.

On the other hand fair play to Robshaw the best 6 in England have at the moment and i really like how he plays always gives 100%.

    I rate Moody. :o

    Bahbahs team looks potentially exciting.

Also, Rocky's playing. Reason enough for me to watch.

He's named in the squad to play Australia.

IMHO these games often promise more than they deliver. The game last year against Australia was dull, dull, dull

Barbarians games arent what they once were anymore. I remember looking forward to the game against Australia last year and it turned into anything but a baabaas game due to Francois Steyns glory hunting and a pretty disinterested group of "superstar" players. Still, nice to see Darcy and Howlett there.

Does the Aussie crowd still hate Sonny Bill?

Have yee all forgotten Barbarians vs. SA two years ago already? As far as I remember the board was alive with people saying "ah exhibition games are dead" in the lead up to it, and every single one came on to eat their words straight away. Some can be damp squibs, but some can be true proper hell for leather games.

Do you remember Steyn taking all those bloody attempted drop goals???? What an idiot , its a BaaBaas game you tool run the shagging thing. He had these backs outside him:

Barbarians: Montgomery (S Africa; Williams, Wales, h-t); Rokocoko (N Zealand), Gear (N Zealand, Smith, England, 50), De Villiers (S Africa), Habana (S Africa); Steyn (S Africa), Du Preez (S Africa; Gregan, Australia, 59)

And he's taking drops from the halfway line :mad::mad:

I think England will win at a canter btw.

Just looking at Darcy's socks... are they Clongowes socks because Leinster/Lansdowne definitely don't wear purple!

Dougie's wearing Munster from what I can see....

Trying to spot Rocky's... might give a clue as to what club he's going to...:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭RtD

Rocky is wearing dark green I think, perhaps just Aussie socks.

Darce maybe even in Wexford socks!

    England being humiliated.

    Good work from D'Arcy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭RtD

5-26 now, Baa-Baas look like they're really enjoying themselves.

    The legs are going.

    19-33

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭RtD

19-33 now, Barbarians down to 14, fading slightly but still entertaining.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,249 ✭✭✭Stev_o

England can only score from kicks, actually hold on nearly every try that's had Goode involved from the 6N onwards has been from these kicks right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭RtD

****, England coming back into this game strongly. Whits on now
