Personally I've never seen Systema, but all I've heard from MA instructors I've talked to is that it is a set of completely unrealistic movements that are pure fantasy in a combat situation.

Never trained in it myself...but in saying that, what you describe seems to be completely against the the ethos of what systema claims to be. And considering it is used by the Spetsnaz to great effect and taught as a practical combat form for specialized military applications.

As far as I know its a hybrid of sambo which in itself is quite useful / realistic and not a "fantasy" combat system.

They might just be coming down with a case of "my MA is better than your MA / my da would beat your da"?

Systema is not used by the Russian Special forces. The guy who started systema off would kick your ass but not everybody is like him. Check Mark Davies at Tactical Edge. He is small got artritus and would leave you wishing you had never started on him.

I AGREE TOTALLY UNREALISTIC, LIKE FIGHTING A DRUNK MAN. MAYBE IF YOUR SWINGING AROUND LIKE YOUR ON E WILL BE THE NEXT BEST SELF DEFENCE ROUTINE.

Yeah I'd think that myself except it's the only one I've ever heard slated.

I mean there has to be something in every MA, someone has to get a benefit from it, I only heard negative things about Systema though.
