RyanAir; Gatwick- Dublin with child under 16

    Hello.

I was wondering if anyone could help me. Im flying with my niece (10) on Tuesday to Dublin. She has no p/port but I read on RyanAir this is ok as long as she has her birth certificate... and we check in at the airport.

I only read the latter after I have just checked us both in online. It asked for p/port details for her so I just assumed if I entered mine that would be ok.

Im now panicking that once we get to the airport & they realise she is not on my p/port they will not let us fly.

I have never travelled with RyanAir before but have a feeling it's going to be a headache. Has anyone made this mistake before & still been allowed to fly?

    Many thanks in advance.

I really hate to bring bad news, and really hope that I'm wrong:

But every instinct I have about Ryanair tells me that a birth cert will not pass at all for Online Check-In.

Ryanair will typically take Photo ID, Passport, EEA ID cards for that. Since you've never used Ryanair before, please note that they can be fairly draconian about how they enforce thier rules.

Most mistakes result in hefty additional charges.

You may still be able to fly, but you will need to check-in the old fashioned way, at the check-in desk. Ryanair are currently trying to force all passengers to use Online CheckIn instead, so I am uncertain if the traditional checkins still exist....

Ryanair clearly state acceptable paperwork - birth cert is not among it.

"It is acceptable for children under 16 to travel if they are included on the valid passport of the parent with whom they are travelling- "

As the child is not on your passport you need to get her one. Get an application and take the required items to passport office and plead your case. They'll look after you so long as you don't leave it until Monday to do.........

What Ryanair will do with your erroneous check-in, I don't know.

The OP is traveling to Ireland so going to Molesworth st in Dublin is no good to them

OP, obviously go to you local passport issuing authority to try get your niece a passport

You have already checked in online. No further changes can be made. There is nothing you can do about this. It does warn you before you hit the check in button about this.

    You now need to
    1) go and get her a passport
    2) make a new booking for her only.

You can still travel on the original online boarding card. Just tell the people boarding you you made a mistake so they are not calling for her when boarding.

This will probably all cost a fortune.
You could chance it and turn up at the airport check in desks and try to explain but Ryanair are not known for their customer service!

The OP can travel on their original boarding pass, however the neice will have to check-in online again using her new passport number. She can't use the old one as it doesn't have her passport number on it.

If the OP gets a new passport for the 10 year old it is only a matter of making a phone call to change the passport details on the online check in, no extra cost, only the phone call, and from here it is charged at local rate.

Once you have checked in no further changes can be made.

They have already checked in therefore no further changes can be made.

It warns you of this before you click the check in button.

I only had 2 letters of my name round the wrong way and didnt notice until I printed the boarding card. I rang them but was told tough luck you had already checked in and as we have stated before you printed your boarding card - not further changes can be made.

Book a new flight was the only answer.

Even if they do get a new passport they cant make any changes to the original booking.

    Their options are
Turn up at the airport and try to get it changed at the check in desk
    OR
Get a new passport and make a new booking for the niece while the OP travels on the original boarding card.

Changes to passport details CAN be made after you have submitted them, either that or it was a dream yesterday when i rang Ryanair because the wrong details were submitted and only realised when i printed off the boarding card.

No changes to the booking (i.e. Flights, names etc.) can be made, but passsport number can.

I know this as I've printed my boarding card with an incorrect passport number before and all I had to do was re-print it with the correct number.
