HTPC problem

Hi..I recently got a dell xps desktop and i have it connected to a Sony bravia 40" 1080p Hdtv via dvi-hdmi. My audio is produced by the IDT HD audio codec pre-installed on the pc which i have connected to a Sony HTSF1300 5.1 home theatre system via optical, which all works well.
The thing is i would like to take advantage of the hdmi audio so i connected pc directly to the receiver via hdmi and installed the ati realtek hdmi audio codec for my Radeon hd 4850 card, and connected the receiver to my tv via a second hdmi cable. All works well and good with excellent picture and sound quality.
My problem begins when i leave the pc idle for a time and change to my tv channels. When i change back to the channel that the receiver is on the pc won't display anything even if i press any button on the keyboard or mouse, then i have to power off the pc then power back on to get it to display and even then the screen resolutions can be changed.
I've also disabled sleep mode on vista as well but i still get the same problem.
I've reverted back to the optical option for now but i'd much prefer the hdmi option.
Im new to this htpc business so i'm probably missing something along the line. If anyone out there knows of a solution to my problem i would really appreciate their help..Thanks!

You may be having HDCP problems, try connecting the pc to your tv by HDMI only and if you still have the problem, try updating the GFX card drivers....
