    Hi all,

just been looking at some videos and was wondering if anyone knows what SANDA is??

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3l71pjVU4II&feature=related description in it is Kung Fu Sanda Sanshou... I think it looks pretty cool, but I suppose theres nothing like this in Ireland(or is there?... if so, I'd be glad to hear more about it).

    I appreciate any/all replies.

    Hello Warriorj,

Sanshou or Sanda are one and the same and with the establishment of the Irish Chinese Boxing Association you will see and hear allot more about this sport in Ireland.

There are allot of clubs around the country training, with the 1st competition of it's kind in Ireland in July this year and Niall Keane is hosting a Sanshou open mat on the 5th of June. Check out the sites in the previous post for more info.

If you are interested in training let us know where you are located and you might find Sanshou in your area.

For me, I run a Sanshou in Blackrock and will be expanding the classes to run 3-4 times per week from July when I move into my new Martial Arts Academy in Deansgrange.

I would just like to point out that you dont have to join a Sanshou club to enter the I.C.B.A SANSHOU competitions. SANSHOU is a competition format that is open to anyone from any style or club to enter.Becoming familiar with the rules is really the only thing that you have to learn and these are posted on the I.C.B.A website, light contact and full contact SANSHOU, anybody that has been training in kickboxing or competition fighting should have no problem taking part in the competition on the 5th july. fighting is fighting, its just different ruled.

Hi all, thanks for the replies I appreciate it a lot.

The other thing I wanted to check... is Sanshou/Sanda an Olympic sport? After googling it like suggested above I saw Olympics mentioned here and there but on Olympics website, I'm not seeing it. Or if it currently is not an Olympic sport... will it be? (as in London 2012?)

At the moment Sanshou is not a Olympic sport , but with a bit of luck it has a very good chance of being in the London 2012, we should know by the end of the year, weather the IOC has approved it or not, the I.W.F HAS DONE EVERYTHING THAT THE IOC HAS ASKED,it should have been in the last olympics but for infighting over control of sanshou in the chinese goverment. The first ever Sanshou competition ever held in Ireland will be on july 5th and everybody is welcome to come along and give Sanshou a go, and i mean the following with no disrepect but if you dont think that you are able for the Sanshou competition, why not give the Quingda a go instead. Quingda is just a light contact version of Sanshou, the same techniques, same equipment , the same rules , its just that you are not aloud hit as hard. The E.W.F states that Quingda should be 10 % power. just come along and enjoy the day and try something different, you never no, you might enyoy it.( I HAVE NEVER REGRETTED DOING SOMETHING, I ONLY REGRETT THINGS THAT I NEVER GOT AROUND TO DOING)
