Travelling with nephew(minor)

Hi there, a quick question about travelling with a minor:
My wife will be flying DUB -> MAD to collect our nephew in June. He'll stay with us for a few weeks (and my wife will be travelling back with him and our kids). Other than his passport, will she need produce any documentation to authorities either here or in Spain (upon entry or when leaving)?

Would a letter from his parents (my wife's brother and sister-in-law) suffice? I wouldn't see something written in Spanish as being much use over here.

I did Google around, but only found stuff from the US / Canada.

    Thanks.

She could run into a few problems with immigration on both sides. I'm guessing that the child has a Spanish passport and/or a different surname to your wife. A letter from the child's parents is essential with contact phone no's and address. A Spanish version would probably suffice as Irish Immigration will be able to glean the most important details. Copies of the parents passports/id cards would also be a help. Post Madeline McCann most immigration authorities are more vigilant about minors travelling without their parents.

Thanks for the reply. My wife posted a similar question on some Spanish forums, and it turns out that the best thing to do in Spain is for her and her brother to go to a local Police station, to for him sign a letter giving her permission to take his son out of the country (and, as you mentioned, contact details), and for someone in the police station to witness and stamp it. I just thought I'd post that back here if anyone else found themselves with a similar question.

I was going to suggest going to the Local Police also. This happens in some countries but wasn't sure if Spain was one of them where you could do this.
