I used a swift for ten years for foxing, i traded it in and i figure i had about 2000 rounds down the tube at that stage, the group size had begun to open up slightly but it was still a good shooter, as long as you dont overheat the barrel and have a good cleaning regime youll get good service from the swift, the bad reputation the swift has was earned at a time when barrel steel wasnt that good , the early loads were very hot which didnt help..however with the good barrel steel and milder loads, and cooler burning powders that are available today the swift has a good barrel life compareable to the 22-250...my advice keep her clean and dont cook your barrel and enjoy the swift!:D

Any calibre that fast will eat a barrel faster than a milder calibre. As to when a barrel's shot out, it depends what your tolerances are. For a hunter, to whom group sizes are an academic matter, then as long as the gun will hold "minute of critter" it shoots fine. For a target shooter, it might be far more crucial, as they rely on genuinely small groups for their sport. You'll get a noticeable shelf of a decrease after a certain time, but after that, it'll be down to your own tolerances what level of accuracy you accept. For instance, for hunting purposes, a gun that once shot 1/2 MOA consistently might only do MOA after a few years and a few thousand rounds. It's lost a significant amount of its accuracy, but it's still a damn fine shooter. On the other hand, if my target rifle starts to consistently open up to one MOA, I'm going to start noticing it and the crystal shelf will start looking a bit grim.
