Making a shiny new bike look like sh*t?

Anybody have any tips / suggestions for making a new bike not look like a new bike?

On the verge of buying but seeing the shinyness and newness of it V seeing stripped down and bashed bikes every day in the city centre is sorta putting me off. Feel like it might as well have a "Steal Me" sign on it. :(

hmmm...well i was thinking more along the lines of dulling down the paint or using tape creatively or something but I've no experience with that sorta stuff.

You can try to splash it with mud and all that sh1te. But, the little bastards are pretty clued in to what to look for.
So, if it's a really expensive bike bring it into your place of work.

Pink, get a spray can of pink and have some fun.

And duc tape. Just randomly apply. People would think the bike is worthless with duc tape keeping it together.

(but it is a ruse)

Just buy a good lock, don't leave is anywhere dodgy and hopefully have a lot of luck. Honestly, you look at the bikes stolen on here and there are very few common factors.

I don't believe that new versus old has a significant impact on risk when compared with the more important lock and location factors.

yeah, but my bike is beautiful.

If i'd stopped half way it would have been more lockable.

Cycle to work in the rain works for me. Usually the day after I've cleaned it.

Second Voodoo. Most bikes that are stolen are sold on the streets for around 50 euro.
Of course a nicer looking bike would get the thief a quicker sale, but he is not that knowledgeable about bikes. He wouldn't know the difference between a cannondale and a rayleigh.
He might know what a Trek is, or a Giant.

That said, saw a bike today with wide reflector stickers all over. Functional and ugly.

Haven't got it yet, hopefully later today a Vita.

As far as I can tell, the womens Sirrus was developed into the Vita cos there are no womens models of the Sirrus since 2007, but I only discovered that yesterday after calling into Hollingsworths.

Nice :) they are pretty bikes, saw one at cycleways last week. It's too bad you're going to unglify it .. but eh, that's the only way to keep it for more than a week.
