So the Buffy movie is set to be re-made. Yay! You say, "The first one was dreadful, so I'd really like to see Joss' vision for this." But then you'll read on and see that this movie is being made without any involvement from Whedon and without any connection to the tv series. What are they thinking.

I don't think that's true, because the idea to remake Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- a movie that utterly bombed upon release -- but then also had a long-running TV show with a legion of ardent fans who would theoretically make up a new movie's audience -- but then to have the new movie have nothing to do with hit TV series -- and most of all, to not involve Joss Whedon, creator of the franchise and sole reason it was ever successful, in any way -- is an idea. It's the worst ****ing idea in the world, but it is an idea.

Fran Rubel Kuzui bought a portion of the rights when she discovered Joss' original script. It's why she and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, are credited as executive producers on Buffy and Angel even though they had very little involvement past the initial pitch. They have made millions and millions off the tv series all due to the fact that they bought the movie script and made it into a pretty awful movie. And now they are trying to cash in again.:mad:

Meh same situation as Star Trek, someone else is giving it a shot which is fine because it doesn't mean we cant still appreciate the original in all it's awesomeness.

This could turn out to be great, who knows? Although I get a distinct feeling they're just doing this because of Twilights success.

It's not as if there were ever any plans by Joss to bring Buffy back to the big screen or even the small screen for that matter, he seems very content with continuing that story in comic-book form.

Ugh, this has to be going through Fox, only they would make such an irrational move in giving this film the greenlight.

Apparently Megan Fox is up for the role of the 'new' Buffy.
This whole affair is just a travesty for people who have followed what can easily be considered one of the best shows to ever have been produced.
Personally, I'm against bringing it back at all (except of course for the awesome season 8 comic books), but if they must... they could at least do it right.

Ugh, how could you be responsible for the film (which tried to deliver on all of the same elements as the tv series but badly) and say you disliked the tv series?! I mean, they both went for the same things, but for example where the series delivered comedy with a clever script, the movie tried to do it with stupid looking vampires and lame one liners.
Do they dislike the tv series because it did what the movie tried to do, but succeeded?!

Faith, The Vampire Slayer with Eliza Dushku. Now that I'd go and see!! This would be a "Meh same situation as Star Trek" (ie extending the franchise).

Not so with our Buffy though:

TNG/ DS9/Voyager/Enterprise and J.J. Abrams' recent reboot were possible as the whole franchise is set in the future. New characters can come and go as the writer wishes.

The essence of Star Trek is not Kirk, Bones, Spock, Picard...or Wesley Crusher. The central idea is of "boldy going" and exploring the galaxy, making some new friends and shooting phasers at others.

Buffy is all about Buffy. Its her adventure. Buffy is SMG. End of!!
