E Bay Scam - Bugaboo

I recently bought a Bugaboo Childs buggy on E bay. I used Paypal so I would get protection. The Bugaboo had a 6 week delivery time and was due to arrive from Sweden. It never arrived. I received numerous e-mails from the seller saying it was a little late due to distribution issues etc. In the end I did not receive a Bugaboo and my money (£500) was lost. I contacted the Gardai, E-bay and Paypay.

E-bay refused to help, Paypal said they couldn't do anything because they only offer protectino for short term delivery dated. The Gardai were more helpful and notified interpol who in turn contacted the Swedish Polices services.

People need to be aware that e-bay auctions are not safe and using Paypal does not offer adequate protection against scams.

I recommend buying the old fashioned way! face-to-face with the seller

You have 45 days to start a Paypal dispute, if you wait any longer, then you can do nothing. Any auction that quotes a 45+ day delivery time is immediately suspect, as a lot of scams rely on the fact that you can do nothing about them after this time.

Depending on your bank, you may be able to do a credit card chargeback, if you funded the sale by credit card that is. There is usually a time limit on these too, so be fast.

Yes credit cards you can usually claim for close to 100 days so get on it!

Had a similar experience buying tickets and couldn't claim from cc company because 100 days had past.

I have to disagree with the OP - eBay has many faults - mostly weighted against the seller rather than the buyer but used carefully it is a fairly safe place to buy and sell. You did not say what sort of feedback your seller had - that is always a fairly of good way of assessing the type of operator that you're dealing with. I would be interested in hearing that particular info. :)
