    I'd go for Gary Anderson or James Wade on current form. I can also see Taylor bouncing back to form and King will be there or thereabouts. I'll be in Germany next week but hope to catch it in an Irish pub. Please can someone keep me up to date with the scores. Here a list of odds;

Anyway I'll go for Wade to win. Who is your pick to win it?

    Gary Anderson.

On form, out to prove himself and above all a top player.

Was hoping Taylor would be a bigger price. He was 7/4 last year and after his performance last night I cannot see why he should be odds-on.

I'm there all week (as your man on Soccer AM says) and cant wait for it. Any other boardsies heading over?

I think King may go one step further than last night. Hes playing well at the minute bound to be one of the favourites.

I think he's brilliant value at 33/1! Could be worth a fiver!:)

Whatabout Adrian Lewis in that poll, the forgotten man of darts it seems!

I love this tournament, anything can happen and there is always a surprise package who goes very far. It was Gary Mawson last year, wonder who it wil be this year?

I went for Anderson, I think this type of tournament will suit him and he has been great in the floor tournaments so far.

Taylor tends to struggle in this one, he has only won it twice and hasn't won it for the past few years. I don't think he will win it this time either.

Look out for some of the non obvious players like Mark Walsh, Mark Dudbridge, Alan Tabern, Wayne Jones etc as this tournament will suit all of them.

    Can't wait.

Anderson is my vote. it's right up his street, he's a great floor player so he's use to all this

Gary Anderson for me as well. I am going to back him this week.

Barney would be my 2nd Tip for it. I know wade beat him last night but he looks like he focused again and always does well in the uk open

I have to go with Taylor. He is stinging after losing in the premier league and will be all guns blazing to get back to winning ways :)

james wade if taylor doesnt hit form

One word of warning for Gary Anderson backers is that he plays Paul Nicholson in a best of 11 first round tie. As we saw in the World Champs this year, he's no push over so the Anderson campaign COULD be over before it even starts!

Tough draw for Mick against Part. Very tough draw for Anderson.

Honestly really looking forward to this!

Its only on for 4 days. I thought it was longer than that. Must be getting confused. Tough match for Mcgowan allright but over 11 legs anyone can win. I bet neither Anderson or Part will like that draw too much.

    Stars Warm Up For Bolton

TOP STARS have adopted varying preparations for the Blue Square UK Open, which begins on Thursday.

Bolton's Reebok Stadium will once again host "The FA Cup of Darts", where 129 players will compete for £200,000 in prize money from Thursday to Sunday.

Gary Mawson - last year's UK Open runner-up - John Kuczynski, David Fatum and Larry Butler all took part in the North American Darts Championship on Sunday in Boxborough before heading to the UK.

Mawson reached the quarter-finals before losing to Chuck Pankow, Kuczynski was a last 16 loser to Chris White and Fatum and Butler were defeated in the last 32.

With no PDC ranked event in the UK, a number of players travelled to the Hampshire Open to gain some match practice ahead of Bolton.

Basingstoke's Colin Monk won the tournament for a second successive year, defeating former PDPA member Tony Randell in the final, with Dennis Smith and Andy Jenkins being quarter-final losers ahead of the UK Open.

Many stars travelled to Newcastle for the Eddy Cox Memorial evening, held in tribute to the late PDC official, who passed away last December.

Phil Taylor, Colin Lloyd and Colin Osborne, who will all enter the UK Open at the third round stage on Friday, took part in exhibition games on the night, and Mark Dudbridge, Mark Walsh, Dave Honey, Stephen Hardy, Ken Dobson and Robbie Parker also travelled to the north-east.

Taylor joined Jelle Klaasen, Paul Nicholson and Anastasia Dobromyslova in the PartyPoker.com Sports Stars Challenge Poker event on Friday, with the event being televised later in 2009.

One player whose focus is not wholly on the UK Open is teenager Michael Smith, who will take his driving theory test on Thursday afternoon before heading to Bolton from his home in nearby St Helens.

Wonder will there be a big underdog in the final this year, like Gary Mawson from last and Barry Bates from a few years back.

I'm going to check out the odds my local bookies today.

    Some great prices here imo!

    http://www.paddypower.com/bet?action=go_type&category=SPORTS&disp_cat_id=&ev_class_id=14&ev_type_id=8347&ev_oc_grp_ids=47661&bir_index=

Think i'll have a few bob on "The King" anyway. MVG looks a decent price at 66/1 also...

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,261 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

Yeah there really are some great prices. Some e/w bets have to be done.

Some standout ones for me are Mark Walsh @ 33/1, John Part @ 50/1, Mark Dudbridge @ 80/1 and Wayne Jones @ 80/1. All of those players are well suited to this competition and could surprise.

It really is a tough one to call though because anything can happen in this tournament and there will be a player that will surpise everyone.

Yeah, Walsh looks a decent bet too... Part is obviously worth a bet at that price but i don't think he plays very well in floor tournaments....

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,261 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

He has reached the 5th round the last three years running, he is defending a lot of money this year and needs big runs in all of the majors to qualify for the Premier League. I think he could do better this year than the last few because of that. Obviously only a couple of quid on him. This is the one tournament with ALL of the top players in it so it's very hard to win. Even Taylor has only won it twice....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,003 ✭✭✭ratinakeg

Lewis looks good value at 28/1 and I can see Colin Osborne doing very well at 50's, I still can't believe how under-rated he is by many people!

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,261 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

Yep Osbourne is another who could do well, he reached the semi's in 2007 but hasn;t really progressed since then.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,502 ✭✭✭MBC

I'll be doing small e/w the following three......Alan Tabern 40/1, Baxter 80/1, Painter 66/1........will prob stick 20 on anderson 10/1 aswell.

He's never ever really done it though has he? There's a bit of a Chris Mason in him.

Agreed he has not done much on the TV but he has been on fire at the floor events this year! It's only a matter of time before he brings that form to our TV screens and hopefully it's this week as I might put a fiver each way on him!;):D
