I don't know, but the Swedish Constitution of Ireland leaves a lot to be desired, and the Irish Constitution of Sweden is even worse!

You'd think they would say SOMETHING about nekkid saunas, but no!! :(

OP, state your own reasons as to why it should be amended maybe?

    Completely?

You mean change it so that everything in it means the exact opposite of what it does now?

    Course it should.

Its littered with tons of out of date references. Women have a duty to be tied to the kitchen sink according to Bunreacht na hEireann.

Any amendment that outlaws "brown envelopes" would get my support.

I believe that the Irish constitution should have new amendments made but not totally amended.
    • We should reinstate the death penalty
    • Make surrendering Irish sovereignty to the EU high treason thus facilitating our withdrawal
    • Gun ownership should be made universal to Irish citizens, no citizen no gun
    • No Taoiseach or President can rule for longer than 8 years and lower the presidency to 4 years and length of Government to 4 years. County Councils should have the authority to force a general election and there should be a poll every 2 years so if the people are not happy with the Government they can vote in the County Council elections knowing that a change of councils will facilitate a General Election.
    • No non-Irish citizen allowed to vote in any poll, regardless of Council, Dail, Referendum or other.
    • Our Neutrality needs to be enshrined further and control of our Borders taken back and the free movement of European citizens stopped, everyone should need a Visa to enter Ireland bar citizens of the Anglophone world such as the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Visa's to be granted only for Tourism and highly skilled labourers, first preference to the Anglophone world.
    • Key Nationalisation of important industries such as Banking, Whitegate Refinery, Aer Lingus, All insurance companies and the entire telecommunications and media networks.
    • The right to shoot and kill intruders on your private property.
    • Irish citizenship to be granted only to Children of two Irish Citizen parents, all others to become Resident Aliens.

EDIT: ^^ This is exactly the kind of amendment i'm saying no to!
Good job at setting up Ireland's own BNP/NSDAP!!

    In place of what?
    A socialist constitution?!

In which case, my answer's a big NO!

This is about the nearest I come to agreeing with you on any of the above, and I still have to ask why we should have a costly election for a figurehead President every 7 years?

In fact, extend the term to 10 years, with no second term.

    I know what you meant.

Either way it's not cool to say you 'would absolutely love' to smash someone's kneecaps in because you dont like their politics. Regardless of whether you misunderstood them or read them correctly.

Wait until the corproations/special interst groups hear that the entire Irish consititution is about to be amended.

They'll be able to buy as many politicians as they need to shape this new document into whatever they need.

Sorry for being pedantic but you don't want to amend the constitution you want to totally rewrite it.

I don't think it needs a total revamp though, there are things in it which are quite sensible and I quite like. It is highly regarded in legal circles I believe as it was drafted by a lawyer to quote a post from another forum

"Overall, it is a very very well written constitution, and is very highly regarded. (Mandela's South Africa studied it as a model when drafting the current South African constitution. Numerous other states have used it as a model. De Valera's constitution is generally seen as superb and a model constitution, with de Gaulle's constitution in contrast seen as one of the worst drafted examples.)"

I don't get the point of ultimately revamping it. The 1937 Constitution whether or not some people think it's archaic has served the country rather well in several respects to this point. The only issue in it's execution is the judiciary interpreting it in ways by which it was never intended to be interpreted when it was drafted originally. However, I like the idea that the people always are consulted about potential constitutional changes and this provides more of a direct democratic system like they have in Switzerland. I would argue that more referendums could be a positive progression rather than a negative one.
