......I would like to go and work part-time for a charity in Dublin, can anyone suggest how to go about it?......I would be prepared to work for free so it's probably volunteering rather than an employment position that I am looking at.....I have no specific requirement for the area I would like to be involved with, I just know that I want to do something for other people or the environment.......

    .....any suggestion will be appreciated!

How about contacting the organisation (of your choice) directly- and offering to helpout?

...that's the thing!....beside big organizations (Focus ireland, etc) that you hear about in the media I wouldn't know who to contact.....I was looking for a web index of charities in the Dublin area but couldn't find anything relevant.........I guessed if there was somebody involved with charities on this board they could suggest a few names.....

Unicef look for volunteers to work in their offices. Don't know if they need anybody at the moment, but you could check.

Ring them- or even better call in to chat to them. Be proactive.....

I saw in the window of the Irish Cancer Society shop in Camden St that they are looking for volunteers to help in the shop. Worth a try maybe?

You probably don't need to work for free - charities tend to pay high wages!

is a great website for volunteering opportunities. Maybe a FAS Community Employment Scheme would interest you, if you're eligible.

What skills do you have to offer a charity? (Listing these might help us to suggest relevant ones, and might help you to convince them to give you a chance.)
