OK I've posted the same thing in two other threads, best to just start a separate one.

I'm getting supplementary welfare (full whack), as was told JA would take about 12 weeks to be processed.

I forgot to sign on and there was no payment last week. I'm worried now that I will have to reapply, although my brother says I can just sign on late.

I can't get over to the office until tomorrow and because they're so busy they never pick up the phone.

Can anyone help? thanks in advance!

just head down tomorrow and explain what happened. Don't let it happen too often, though.

I haven't missed it by just a day or two though... just checked the claim form and I originally signed on February 19th! they must have told me when the next signing on day was but I can't remember, just completely forgot about it as have been so busy applying for jobs/going for interviews.

no need to tell me I'm an idiot! :(

Did you get a letter with the sign on dates?

Chances are your actual claim has come through and they are closing out your supplementary welfare allowance claim.

While I am waiting for my JA claim I don't actually have to sign on.

is that true? you don't sign on until after the claim has been approved?

that would make sense as I don't actually remember them saying anything to me about signing on when I made the original claim...

surely they would notify you first before stopping the supp welfare payments?

    thanks Xiney

It's true for me - until my claim is approved I don't have to sign on. I know because I was originally signing on for credits (didn't know I might be entitled to JA) and so they had sent me a letter with sign on dates for the rest of 2009. When I applied for JA, they didn't tell me I didn't need to sign on anymore, so I showed up for my next sign on date (on the letter) and they spent a few minutes looking for my file (while I panicked!) and then I told them that I'd recently applied for JA. They told me that until the claim was approved I actually didn't need to sign on.

(Came down on the bus for 10am and waited in line for 40 minutes for nothing... sigh!)

However, since your money wasn't available Friday and you haven't heard from them on your claim, I'd head down to the office tomorrow morning and ask them what's going on. Better to know for sure.

    cheers Xiney.

I'm just worried I'll have to reapply, but hopefully you are right and I wasn't meant to sign on whilst waiting for the claim to be processed.

also, when I got my first supp welfare payment he was meant to backdate to beginning of feb, but only backdated to beginning of march. also there were two weeks where I didnt collect... I was told by the lady in the post office just to speak to the welfare officer and he'd sort it for me, but I figured I'd do it when I actually needed that money, saw it as a way of saving!

now worried that the money I'm "owed" will be lost somehow, really need it as looking to work in the UK and will have to relocate

You should definitely go in to see the social welfare officer. Hopefully they'll sort it out - and let us know tomorrow how you get on!

    will do ;)

ok, well first of all I didn't have to sign on... huge relief. Xiney you were right just have to wait until processed.

reason why I didn't get paid last week... because there was a week where I didn't collect and so they suspended me, in case I was a dole cheat. all sorted now and will have some dinero next monday! :D

    hi Lisie,

all I can say to you is contact them ASAP and let them know you can't make it that day. I'm not sure what they'll say regarding you going on holiday, may be just show them a recent bank statement to show you're not swimming in cash. have a look around for similar threads... I know I've read posts from people in a similar situation and it can be resolved.

strange that this thread gets bumped today... my sign-on card arrived in the post this afternoon, made the claim february 19th! should I expect a big fat cheque now?

    anyway enjoy the holiday ;-)

February 19th? Are you kidding me? Where do you live?

When you say sign on card do you mean a letter with a date stating when you actually have to sign on? That letter should say when you have to collect your money too?
Or is it the white social services card?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭board silly

not a letter (that'll probably arrive next week!) just a piece of white paper with sign-on date etc... nothing to do with the social services card

I applied for jobseekers allowance feb 19th, been getting supplementary welfare since then. im in north kildare by the way

    Back dated??

He's been getting paid though by I presume Community Welfare Officer

DSFA will take all that back so he will only get paid the difference if there is any.

With regards holiday, you get 2 weeks holiday a year when you are on JA / JB

You should let them know before hand and fill out a holiday form. You're payment will be made when you come back, whether it's one or two weeks.

If your signing is on during this time you will be excused and just resume the following month.

long time since I've posted on boards, never a regular tbh. reading back over this thread makes me smile - lots of helpful people.
I ended up in london not long after, but back in Ireland since 2012.
