    Hi,

I have the Asus Eeec PC 900 laptop. Its for home use. I have Vodafone (E169 Stick Modem) for internet. I have set up internet with O2 broadband on another laptop, and this went ok.

But on this one, No wireless networks display, not one? Does anyone know how to make them display? The "enable wireless" box is ticked.

    Can anyone help? Thanks.

It sounds like you are mixing up your wireless.

O2 and Vodafone broadband are technically 3G mobile broadband. In other words, they use the mobile phone network.

With respect to laptops, wireless networks refers to WiFi networks, connected to, say, a wireless DSL modem, which uses the normal telephone network.

So which one are you trying to set up - WiFi or Vodafone?

If you want to enable your wifi card on your 900, you need to press the following keys to toggle the wifi card on or off:

Press the Fn key, then F2 (to toggle on or off)

This will not work if the wifi card has been disabled in the bios.

i am trying to set up Vodafone...the O2 was a different laptop. I have done the F2 thing, but nothing happening.

I am only somewhat laptop literate....how can i check if the wifi card has been enabled?

    Hang on. :)

You are setting up Vodadfone, so you have a Vodafone card, correct?

If so, forget about wireless, forget about WiFi. You are not setting up a wireless connection, you are setting up a mobile broadband connection.

Now, what happens when you plug the Vodafone card into the laptop?

Is the laptop Windows or Linux?

The stick should show up as a 'Drive' on your computer.

Open explorer, by pressing the Windows key and E, at the same time.

Click on the vodafone symbol, or whatever icon has just turned up. Then, typically, for Huawei USB modems (which you most likely have), click on AutoRun.exe to start the modem software install.

Ah, there ya go. Is the Vodafone stick supported under that version of Linux? I'm not so sure.

I know I had hassle setting mine up under Windows Vista last week. Ironically, I am going to try it under Linux because it is apparently more stable.

Not sure what you can do, tbh. You may be able to install the software for that modem onto your laptop.

You can use betavine with the default Xandros that abbey2000's 900 comes with.

It is not for the timid though. Nearly all the methods I used to get my Huawei E169 working involved fiddling with the terminal.
