You'll need to give us details.

How does it idle, is there any noticable change in MPG, is it a recent problem?

    What year/engine is it?

It could be a number of things, but this is a classic symptom of a defective MAF sensor.
It would be my first suspicion tbh.

car is idling well.... torque good up until top gear 50 mph plus..

    No change in Mpg..

Any idea how much a new maf is and could I fit it my self

+1 on the maf, goes to a default setting once faulty and no high end power as far as I'm aware.

Think they cost around €80 and you can find info online how to fit them, its not too hard apparently.

Its a bosch part as far as I'm aware, common fault :)

That feels like it defaults and limits engine speed and revs at about 80 mph...

After being to 80 and slowin back down..., There is no power at all in any gear..

Turn of the ignition and that seems to reset the Maf...

    thanks for your help

Yup its reset when you turn off the ignition, its changing the settings back to the default when you go to rev it high
and its reset to normal when you start it up again.

Had a similar problem with mine going to limp mode with a split turbo pipe, kept going to limp mode when i opened her up.

Actually check all the pipes aswell, reading back that could be your problem too, shes going into limp mode on you by the sound of it.

Is it whisling louder than normal when you give it full throttle? Like a whoosh of air?

Maybe try GSF, it might be best to get the fault code read though it could be a number of issues.
