    Hello,

Does anyone know of drawing classes for a 20-year-old, or reasonably priced summer courses, in or around Dublin city centre?
I have looked and searched on the net, phoned schools and walked around town searching but to no avail.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Ok first off no need to type in such a big font, don't worry we can read the standard size font just fine.

Check the Arts/Craft forum as they have a sticky at the top of the forum for art classes workshops. There is also information for the Dublin City Sketchers in the forum who meet once a month to draw around the city, while not a class you would meet plenty of people willing to offer advice and feedback on your work. There is a weekly life drawing class in Trinity every saturday and also life drawing on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the United Artists Club. Alot of the VEC colleges run summer classes as does NCAD. Sign up for the visual artists ireland mailing list, it is emailed twice a week and always has several drawing classes happening around the country.

Where you looking for a course specifically related to comics or just a general drawing class?

Will i be able to just transfer my post to the Arts and Crafts section, or
will I need to re-type it and begin again. Thanks in advance.

Does the Trinity life drawing not end at the end of the college term? Are there still classes held there during the summer?

No clue, they use to have classes in the summer as one of my teachers from college ran them but we're going back 8 odd years there so maybe someone with more up to date info can inform.

Went to the United Artists Club for the first time today at Fitzwilliam street. Life drawing classes (drawing naked people) are held there every Wednesday 8-10.00 and Thursday 6-8.00. 10 euro in.

Great model and very good lighting. The model will posse for 5, 15 and 20 minutes with one 30 minute at the end. There is a 20 minute break at about an hour in, most of us went to the small club bar upstairs.

It's in a small basement which was a bit weird at first but this was fine once you got used to it. The building itself is actually quite fancy in a sort of private gentleman's club kinda way. There were only about eight others there so plenty of room for tools and moving around.

There's a great creative atmosphere and will definitely be going back.

Sounds, great I might try and check out one of the classes next week. Do you have to be able to draw? Is there an instructor there?

Hey Magwea, did you go on the wednesday or thursday session? Never been to the wednesday but the thursday is run by Brian from the IGI and has more of an illustration focus. They use some of the same models as the animation program at Ballyfermot so they are really good.

No, there is no instructor there. But you don't have to be able to draw, all skill levels are welcome as far as i can tell. Just bring along your materials and you'll be fine. It's not that scary, honest.

ztoical- I was there for the Thursday session and as far as i can tell it was a women who was in charge of it -she collected the money at the end of the class anyway- so unless the model was Brian i think it might be a different class. Also can't say if it was a particularly illustration focused class since there was no instruction and you were left pretty much to your own devices. Maybe it was in the heroic posses of the model!

The model is amazing though, this guy was trim, and i swear he didn't even move an inch for the entire time. I think he said he's been doing it for a while it wouldn't surprise me if they used him in Ballyfermot. And i came expecting a female model.

    Glad to help minefield.

Normally they rotate the models so it goes male one week female the next and so on or at least thats what they use to do. I use to be on the mailing list for the class and you'd be told a couple of days before hand which model was coming. I didn't mean when I said illustration focused that there was direction or instruction but the thursday class use to be well attended by members of the Illustrators Guild and they would request poses more suited to illustration then say fine arts that's all that's why the models who work at Ballyer are good as they are use to animation life drawing which is very different to life drawing for fine arts. Brian may have stopped running that session, as I'm not in Dublin anymore I find I end up out of the loop.
