    does anybody think a coat of arms is for the first born son of the first born son...etc, or can anybody bear it?

    I was under the impression that anyone in the family can bear the crest.

    That's not based on anything other than my own family, I am not sure about general tradition and such.

    Anybody is entitled to their coat of arms. It is part of your family history and who you are, your genetics, your cultural background etc. My family is very into the family history; my Nana is a Farrell (maiden name) for example, and she's not the firstborn or a son, but she identifies with that name (as well as her married name).

    In my opinion, you are clan, and that is that. Be proud of your bloodline. ;)
