Q re Motor Tax and Change of Ownership

Sorry for this question - but I'm unsure what happens.

I've just agreed to buy a secondhar car from a small dealer. The motor tax is out since Feb 09. I'm collecting on Monday and will get the registration in the post as soon as possible. What happens with tax though? Do I only pay from the day that I own the car or do I have to cover arrears? In such a car, can I get the dealer to say that the car was off the road?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Once you get the Change of Ownership form back you tax it from the date you took ownership. No arrears need to be paid
