Was in Maplins today and I was shocked at the rip-off prices on their 360 stuff:

That controller is on their site for £37.99

The worst has to be this though:

    Thats worth about €50

Feck, that is some rip off, I never figure out how Maplins stay in business.

You should do something more than posting on here. If I were you I would either get in contact with the Maplin HQ or get in contact with a consumer watchdog. I mean you have the evidence to back up the prices they are charging?

Might not achieve anything, but at least you complained.

They can charge what they like though cant they? As long as they don't get together with other shops and all agree to charge artificially high prices.

I dont shop in Maplins anyway, I just go in to stare at the delicious tools, mmmmm.

Went into maplins to buy 1Gb of DDR ram for my PC. €113.50!! What's worse is there was a 2Gb DDR2 chip right next to it FOR THE EXACT SAME PRICE!!!.
Ended up buying it in PC world for €50

I went back to maplins after. I showed the manager the receipt and told him if he could price match that I would buy it off him(I had €100 maplins vouchers and still have 6 months later!!!).

He said that they don't set the prices. They're set in Head office and they can't do anything about it.

So even the staff know they're way over priced!!!

Maplins are only good for one thing, going in and having a laugh to cheer yourself up but checking out there mental prices :D

I remember when the nvidia 8800gt first came out (had only just bought one online) and had a wander around Maplins with mate who wanted to check on blank dvd prices, and I found a Geforce 4 series card going for almost 400 quid on the shelf

Maplin are a joke, for example on their website a PCB mounted microphone is £2.49, I found a small company called Bowood electronics that does them for 65 pence online so Maplin even rip off their UK customers compared to other UK component suppliers. They beat Maplin hands down on every component I checked and charged less than £4 shipping for a large order. I dread to think what Maplin's postage to Ireland would be for the same order. I only bother going into their bricks and mortar store if I'm in real need of a component asap.
