Destruction of church and religious beliefs

The revelations of the recent reports are horrific.

How can anyone here have any belief left in the catholic institutions that seem to be full of perverts and sadists.

    Shame on the orders.

Anyone with any information should be contacting the Gardai.

The orders need to name and shame these ***** and anyone involved needs to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

SHAME ON YOU ALL FOR LETTING THEM HAVE THE POWER TO DO THIS

I'm not sure this kind of post even warrants a reply but here goes:

Every institution has people who are in it for the wrong reasons. Horrible crimes have been committed in the name of freedom and democracy, yet we persist with it. The actions of a relatively small number of religious (on a global scale) does nothing to interfere with my faith as a Christian. Should we also abandon all belief in the State, which had a far greater role to play in the tragedy which unfolded. Given that a majority of the abusers are (a) in the legal system (b) dead (c) close to death, the spectre of spending millions more on a witch hunt is not very appealing. AFAIK this was a judicial inquiry and is not empowered to pronounce guilt or innocence, instead just to present it's findings. Therefore the naming of individuals, individuals oftentimes without the capabilities to contest the findings would be legally questionable.

As for your "Shame on you"..... I'd like to ask who you are referring to? Given that this situation was not replicated in most countries, one can only infer that how this came about is less as a result of the religious and more to do with Irish society at large, therefore I correct you to say Shame on US. As a country, as a society, we failed. Every citizen in this country abdicated the social responsibility to our society's most vulnerable elements for decades.

Last night on the Late Late Show I believe Fr Michael Mernagh represented the vast majority of relgious, clergy and lay, certainly of the Catholic faith, and I think the suggestions he made should be followed by the Government, i.e. a national day of atonement, a memorial in the capital and others.

The kind of wild reactionism represented in your post is as pointless as it is unhelpful to anyone.

The church has protected serial rapists and murderers.

It has threatened and bullied anyone who tried to make it face its responsibilities, and it has slithered out of paying for its employees' rapes, beatings and torture.

How can you as christians allow this.

How can you still support the orders when they currently have paedophiles working for them.

How can you still support this country, when it was the State who handed over these kids to their eventual abusers. My father went to a Christian Brothers School in the 1950's and never saw so much as a finger lifted against a pupil, where does that fit in to the picture being presented to us? I for one, do not "support" any order, or "allow" any cover up, or shirking of responsibilities. So once again throwing your accusations about is pointless.

Ok, first of all, Christian DOES NOT MEAN catholic. Second of all, best not to ignorantly come here to people you do not know, who's backrounds you haven't a clue about and tell us 'Shame on you'! Get off your high horse, you do not have the monopoly on outrage. So 'shame on you' sir or madam, for ignorantly ranting at people you don't know!

You are totally ignoring the post,

1st of all you should be apologising to the poor children.
2nd of all you should be looking at and questioning your own belief's.
3rd of all you should be doing everything in your power to get your church to address this horrific crime and publish all the names of current abusers.

Have you apologised? Questioned your own beliefs? Got your State to properly address this horrific crime? Of course not, you're whiter than white in all of this

Most of the people posting in this forum aren't any more Roman Catholic than you are. What you're doing is akin to slagging muslims for supporting Al Qaeda or something. It's retarded.

........ You do realise that it is the minority of institutions which are referred to the the report? I was talking to my father about this yesterday, he hasn't a reason in the world to lie as he is not a practising Catholic, has no great love for the clerics in general, and has no reason to defend anybody. At almost 70 years of age, if he tells me he saw no sexual or physical abuse I have no reason whatsoever to doubt him.

Why should I be apologising? Should a 20 year old German apologise for the Nazis? Have YOU apologised?

Why would I do that? Why would I question the very beliefs which tell me what they did is wrong...

Current abusers are being dealt with appropriately in the judicial system and are being named.... so again I'm mystified
