    Car is 01Bmw 318ci.
Had this light come on last month.Checked the manual and it reads:Engine.Exhaust emission values have deteriorated. Please arrange for the problem to be examined by BMW service.
Now before you tell me to go do that,it was serviced in Jan and not due another for 13k miles.Brought it to a friend of friend in a Toyota place who said he cleared it out and no big prob.Grand.
Well its back on with a passion.Get about 5mins into my drive and then it lights up and stays on for the whole trip.
Is this no big deal or should i start doing overtime in work!?
    Many thanks.

A sensor of some type most likely.
Get it done cause it wont go away by itself. No point leaving it on. You might even have poor fuel consumption while the problem is not fixed.

Most probably the lamba sensor. Not much to get fixed and as far as I know it does not have any major impact on the car. Went to get mine fixed a few months ago and the guy asked me did I want to leave it out all together!
