I'm going to have to apply for JSA in another 10 days or so if i can't find work and I'v been told that I will be waiting at least 7 weeks.

Basically, I have tickets to the states as a birthday present to stay with relatives for 3 weeks and I'm wondering can I go while my claim is being processed?

I know i'm meant to be still seeking work and I will do still online, its just that I have been looking forward to this trip for so so long!

Any help would be great! :D

Yes you can still go - you are supposed to tell them though - it should come out of the holidays you are allowed while signing on. Just call into the office the day before you go and all should be ok.

There might be an issue in that you're only allowed two weeks a year, not three.

You can probably go, and get away with it: they're unlikely to contact you during the three weeks you're away. Is there someone who can monitor your mail while you're away, and email you if something turns up? If they did happen to ask you to turn up for something during the three weeks, you could ring up and say you'd be away at a job interview that day.

I have a similiar question if anyone can help, I had 3 weeks booked in spain before I was made redundant a friend has given me the use of his apartment so I only had to pay for the flights I know they only allow you to go for 2 weeks but will they let you go for three and just pay you for two or do you have to sign off and back on again because I don't want to do that as I had to wait 8 weeks the first time I signed on.

Hi all again, as I posted in another thread, I have been lucky enough to have a quick processing for my claim for JSB. I will be away on an upcoming Wednesday (my day now assigned for collecting money), so I assume I can collect that on the Friday (though will ask in Post Office tomorrow)

My problem is that my first sign on day turns out to be a Wednesday I am in Dublin in a months time (my first collection is tomorrow). My question is what do I do? Will I just go in and explain situation and/or fill out those holiday forms (though it is not a holiday as such, just a pre-planned trip to Dublin for a gig someone gave me tickets for, so then again that might count as a holiday in their eyes). Will I lose my claim because I'm not there for the first sign-in date?! Not going to Dublin is not an option, as have booked (pricey but no option at time) accomodation and train tickets already. Any help appreciated!

edit: I did post this in anothe thread but eager for a variety of responses, thanks!

You should definitely let them know you won't be around for your sign on day - same as if you were working you'd need to book the time off.
