    EU laws stipulates NO

    but.................

Go ahead. I had a lighter which went through around 20 odd airports and lasted me around 1 1/2 years and then died last week.

Like mentioned in previous posts. Most airports could care I had a syringe with me let alone a lighter. They were all more interested in tooth paste.

I too have been playing 'hide the lighter' with airport security for 2 years now and Im winning bigtime :D
You can risk it OP but if the Zippo is of any sentimental value, as they are for some people, then Id say leave it at home. Cause if you do get caught with it then its going straight in the bin :(

Id also say not to try this trick flying to or from the US, they are just way too paranoid about terrorists to make it worth the risk.

Hey Berty, Id love to know what lighter lasted you 18 months, was it a Clipper?

My brother had a zippo taken out of his hand luggage coming back from Bulgaria. They didnt tell him they toke it and they broke his suicase straps when they took it!

If it means a lot to you id say leave it at home

I got stopped with a brand new Zippo in my bag in airport security in Berlin. They just made me go back out and rip out the wick and cotton wool. Then they let me through with it.

Same thing happened on of our group coming back from there recently. There was no problem flying out of Dublin with it in his pocket, but in Berlin he had the choice of leaving it behind or taking out the cotton wadding and then burning off whatever fuel was left before security would let him through.
