Right, so it seems that it is time to buy some tyres for the car as I have somehow managed to go through the two rear tyres in under 5k miles

Presumably they're ****e ones the garage threw on before I bought it, so looking for some improvements.

I was going to just jump in and get one of the big brands like the Eagle F1 or the michelin PS2s but they're damn expensive. Are they actually worth it?

I've heard very good things about the Falken FK452 tyre as a high performance budget tyre. has anyone used them?

    Any other ideas on options?
Current tyre spec is 255/35/19 ZR

EDIT: Also, if someone has a link for the best (cheapest) place to buy these tyres let me know...cheers.

I have a set of Eagle F1's on my car and I reckon the're worth it.
    Great grip and stopping power.

    Check www.camskill.co.uk for good prices

what about lasting? I've heard those Falken FK452 tyre can last up to 15k miles. What do you get out of the F1s?

I doubt you would get 15k miles out of any tyre on the back of an M3.

Cheers, they're €40 a tyre cheaper on that site than the one I was looking on. Did you buy yours there?

An interesting point the OP brings up. I also feel that the new tyres the garage give you dont last very long also.???? Even ones I got that still had the new tyre coloured markers on them seem to wear fast. Is it my imagination?

Remember getting a set of new Kumho rears from the garage on a Rx-8, lasted about 2 months and were totally bald.

Yep got mine there, great service and speedy delivery, took a day and a half.
I dont have a M3 though so cant comment on like for like wear.
Have them on a Focus ST and done about 4k Km so far and they are wearing well.

Good tyres usually grip well but cause they are soft they do not last long - especially on the back of an M3. Crap tyres will last ages cause they are harder but the grip will be pants in comparison. Some tyres have a decent balance but both grip and logevity is an oxymoron. Eagle F1's are great. I have Toyo Proxes T1R's which I'm happy with.

www.eiretyres.com is anotehr good place to look.

I bought myself 2 19" Eagle F1 asymetrics from camskill last week, very fast delivery and had them fitted in discount tyre and auto service in Rosemount business park for €20 each, saved about €130 in the process.

I've had my M3 3 years drive approx 12K miles a year and I've had to put 4 sets of rear tyres on it (well garage put first set on and I've put the rest on).

Falkens 452's were reasonably resilient, so far the F1's beat them hands down for sheer grip, it will remain to be seen how long they last though, what they have in grip they seem to lack in durability, that's the trade off I suppose.

I bought a set of F1's for my e39 M5 off Camskill, they are a great tyre and show no sign of wear after about 2000 miles.
