    Anyone any recommendations??

my reccomendation is dont forget your passport any night you are going out

i lost an entire night because nowhere would accept any other form of id

sorry i cant give you any names i cant remember them but you will have no shortage of great clubs to go to and the bars in boston are unreal as well

for great food (italian) go to north end. its right beside the harbour and you can walk to the big food hall place in 5 mins from there(again cant remember the name sorry) and around there there is loads of bars. great way to start the night

You have to use your passport or else you can get a Mass drinking license - like a drivers license - from the police.

Lansdowne street is where all the clubs are -- Avalon was there. There is probably something in it's place.

The problem is everything shuts in Beantown at 1am so its not great for the late night partying.

The bars around Fanueil hall are pretty kicking... Beantown pub, Roisin Dubh etc.

There is a fairly good scene at Davis Sq in Somerville - on the Red Line

Can I get that drinking license with my drivers license instead of my passport?? Or what if i just had drinks before i go out? Can you get into clubs and not drink there being under 21?

Yes you can get into some clubs and be underage and not drink. What happens is - they give you an armband if you are over 21.

No one accepts an Irish drivers license usually.

They are pretty strict in Boston about the 21 thing. You'll need to get someone 21 to buy you beers. Some bars you'll be able to get into alright... definately around Brighton and some studenty parts of town. Locals would be better to advise you about that

You need to carry your passport almost everywhere within the US if you are heading out. I lived in Dallas for 5 years and even a person aged 50 has to show ID to get served, it's a strict Law. I lived in Boston too and you won't be served without a passport. It's part of living in the US, you take your passport with you almost all the time. As said already go to Landsdowne St it's next to Fenway Park and most people party their prior to and after Sox games

ye i was living in maine and in walmart they almost didnt serve me with my passport as they said ' i dont think we can accpet foreign passports' i looked at them and laughed and asked for the manager but if they had of refused me i would not have been moving until the cops arrived

boston is real strict fanuel hall is a great place alright some memories coming back to me now

Best nights i had in boston were hous epartys! Buy a keg of beer and rent the pump for it too and just invite all the people you meet, 2 of us went and we met about 30 people it was great! Also try around fenway park on the greenline if there is a match going on, the athmosphere is class

Bostons a great city but the nightlife is nothing special, we lived in Brighton ave and normally drank in The Kells, would recommend you check it out. Another decent Irish bar nearby but the name escapes me now. Kells on Thursdays is Asian night, some of the hottest women you'll meet ;) in general we didn't go out downtown.

Where will you be staying? You're going to find it very tough to get served though.

Was in Harvard ave myself, Try the Kinvara aswell, all these pubs are going to be quiet unless there is a special occasion, we drank in 'the littlest pub' too and it was great but seemingly thats gone now.

we're staying in Brighton area, on gardena street...only some of us are over 21 so we cant drink on a night out without our fake IDs... what are they like if you drink and then show up at a club with passport saying your under 21?? We just wanna get hammered!! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,332 ✭✭✭Guill

i remember some of the clubs allowed under 21 but you had to have a wrist band on to get drink (doorman gave these to over 21's)
it was easy for some of our friends to get fake I.Ds off a guy thet met over there but only some bouncers were convinced and more confiscated the I.Ds

and what are the bouncers like if you turn up drunk and your ID says you're 20? do they call teh cops or anything??

To be honest i dont think they would, but you can always get one who might, I always thought of Boston as like Galway only hotter. The people there are really sound so you should be OKAY, Are you going on a J1? When we went we met loads of people the first day when they bring you to a hostel, some of them were there a few days, they will know the score - it was 2003 when i went.
