California Honeymoon

    Hi all,

Just wanted to know what peoples general ideas are about a honeymoon of this type. Both myself and my fiance like our sun but we wouldn't be ones for lying around beside a pool all day every day for two or three weeks.

So basically the idea we're looking at at the moment is a trip to the american west coast. What we were thinking of doing was heading to las vegas for 4 or 5 days, san fran for 4 or 5 days and hawaii for a week or so.

Has anyone ever done anything like this, or is anyone planning something like this?

Also does anyone have any other ideas for america?

    Thanks in advance guys!!!!

I was in Vegas and San Francisco two years ago, it was AMAZING!!!! Vegas is just unbelievable.

A small bit of advice - I'd leave Vegas til the end. Simply for the reason that the hotels there are absolutely amazing and if you're going from Vegas to say San Francisco, you will be so disappointed by the hotel in SF!! We stayed in the Bellagio in Vegas and then went onto the Fairmont in SF which is one of the top hotels in SF and we were sooo disappointed after living it up in the Bellagio. So to avoid the disappointment, keep Vegas til the end :)

+1 on the Bellagio, I stayed there a couple of years ago and it was class. I wasn't a big fan of Vegas though. San Francisco is great.

OP, I did a roadtrip taking in San Fran, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Grand Canyon and some of the national parks, a bit more than what you were planning and it was great. It was just a holiday with a friend but we booked everything independently (flights, accommodation, car rental) and it worked out fine and gave us a lot of flexibility, you might have more luck in the travel forum I reckon with other people who have done this trip.

I was just in San Fran and Vegas a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to write up a trip report soon enough in the holiday forum, but a few quick comments.

San Francisco is a lovely city. Nice atmosphere and plenty to do.

Vegas is dirty and quite run down. Three nights was enough for us, despite thinking it wouldn't be on our first day. Unless you're into gambling, I don't know what you would do for a week. Grand Canyon is amazing though - get a helicopter trip.

We drove from San Fran to Vegas, going through Yosemite and Death Valley. Yosemite is absolutely beautiful. If you're going later on the year then you can drive across it usiong the Tioga pass road. Otherwise you have to drive south through Fresno and Bakersfield, which is a bit boring at times.

Death Valley is cool enough, but a night is fine. Only so much sand and scrub you can look at. It's really to drive through, rather than stop and sight see I think.

    I totally disagree!!

I was there for six nights and I didn't wanna leave, I would have stayed there longer if I could've and have always wanted to go back since then. The shopping there is just unbelievable and it's just a fun place to go to. Great hotels, great food, great shops, etc. I'm not into gambling, we did only a teeeny tiny bit. I need to go back to Vegas so that I can actually see all the hotels coz when I was there, it was mostly the shops that I saw lol.

Oh and Grand Canyon is great, defo do the helicopter ride. We did that and it was fantastic.

To each their own - obviously it wouldn't be doing well if everyone thought the same thing as me! I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it, which may be what it sounded like. I just thought I'd seen enough in the three days.

San diego is beautiful and lots to do, plenty of beaches, lots of shopping, museumy type stuff, there is a casino place just 40mins from san diego with a bus going straight there and it has a brilliant outlet centre attached to it. And it is so beautiful in san diego. I would go back there for a honeymoon
