Ah yes, the Daily Mail. That bastion of quality journalism and non-sensationalist reporting.

    Oh who cares about McCann.

    Missing white girl sydrome.

How many other people go missing and dont have 1% of the coverage?
And when are her parents going to be investigated themselves for negligent behaviour?

Well, you are wrong, right, right and right.

Everyone should care about Madeleine McCann. It's not her fault, whatever happened to her. But if she was the daughter of a black working class couple no-one would have given a ****, which is wrong: every child is just as valid as the next one.
True, other kids do go missing and don't receive any coverage; but they should.
And, yes, the parents should be investigated for child neglect - if they were chavs from Essex, they's have been crucified by now. Although, I wonder if chavs would leave their three kids alone, night after night?

    santosubito's so right.

Of course we should care about every child who goes missing.

Here's an article from *two years ago* about some of the hundreds of children who have disappeared from the 'care' of the HSE:

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/teen-missing-from-care-working-as-a-prostitute-123826.html

Teen missing from care working as a prostitute

    Sunday April 01 2007
    MAEVE SHEEHAN
A MISSING teenager asylum-seeker who disappeared from the care of the health service has been found by Gardai working as a prostitute in Sligo.

The Nigerian girl, aged 17, was arrested when detectives raided a brothel in the town in the past fortnight. She had been placed into the care of the Health Services Executive (HSE) after arriving in Ireland unaccompanied six months ago. She ran away shortly afterwards.

Her case will confirm fears that many of the 300 asylum-seeker children who disappeared from State care in the past five years are being exploited by the sex trade.

    (snip)

Notice the terminology: "She ran away shortly afterwards". Maybe she did. Maybe she didn't. Maybe she didn't go willingly; it seems unlikely that she did.

Horrible thing to say, Maddie is only a child and would not understand

Good point but can you blame the Mccanns for taking advantage of the fact they have money and contacts? It is terrible about the others that don't but McCanns are not responsible for that. Do you starve yourself because there are starving people in Africa? Do you sleep on the street because there are homeless people in society?Everyone puts their own first
And when are her parents going to be investigated themselves for negligent behaviour?
Fair point, anyone poor probably would have been

Why can't she be called by her correct name and not some ridiculous tabloid nickname?

It's different because she was 3 years old when she went missing and that means a paedophile may be involved, and we heard about it a lot because she's British and the majority of news channels broadcasted to here are British. As for the parents, we only have the media reports to go on, its up to the Portugese police to go down that road and quite frankly I don't think they will at this stage.

Takes up less space so they can make up rhymes and funny headlines I suppose.

Santosubito makes a very valid point -

Just because most missing child cases don't get the attention they deserve, that doesn't mean no missing child cases should get the attention they deserve.

But we don't need to hear about "Maddy" for the rest of our lives, DO WE?
