What if you miss a day, if you can't make it to the post office or wherever

What if you're sick with a flu, or for whatever reason you simply can't make it on the day of the week you're supposed to collect your pay, then what happens?

Also, do they give you cash in hand, or is it a cheque, or what the hell is it?

If you ring welfare & explain that you can't make it due to illness then they will give you a double weeks pay next week or the following week. If you don't let them know you may not get anything. This won't work every week or every second week but they will try & be fair about it.

It's cold hard cash handed out by the lovely people of An Post, just be prepared for a queue.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

One more question while you're here: do you need to bring anything with you besides ID?
Edit: Two questions: how much of a wait in the queue should you expect?
(The idea of queuing up isn't the most pleasant thought - possibly it's the strongest deterrent against the dole in my opinion)

I'd be surprised if anyone likes to queue for the Dole but it's just the way it's done unfortunately! Unless you're one of the lucky people that gets it to their bank account. I find that depending on what time you go to get your money at, the queue could be gone or could be 20 people long.

I work in a post office, you will need to bring some form of photo id and ensure your social welfare card is signed on the back.
As for the queue it really depends on the office but the times to avoid would be 9.00-10.00, 12.00-13.00 and 14.00-15.00.
Finally your payment is available for collection in most offices tuesday at 17.30, this may vary but if you ask when ur collecting your first payment most staff will tellyou how long you have to collect.
Also since the downturn dole payments are not allowed to be paid into bank accounts as there was huge fraud happening.

bump. I forgot to sign on (I know, idiot) and there was no payment waiting for me last friday. I'm getting supplementary welfare whilst waiting for my JA application to be processed.

will I have to go through the whole initial application process again, or just sign on late? I've tried ringing the office in maynooth but they never answer and won't be seeing them until tomorrow.

any idea what the earliest is I can expect to get my next payment??

    thanks in advance.
