Depends on what your style is, a set up like that means **** all to a scratch DJ.

For general mixing I agree that 4D looks nice but a tad expensive for the student budget, Im happy with what I got.

For a broke student, cheapest is best, no exceptions.

    Dell Lappy + Choice Of Software + Total Control + Dj IO + T.Amp 1050 MKIV + 2 X 350Ws.

Nothing high grade, but the whole lot probably cost less than the above controller [Excluding laptop].

Last saturday night I went a bit overkill.

    2 x Vinyl Decks,
    2 x CD
    Laptop with Ableton Live

5 hour set with a mixed crowd early in the night so I actually used every bit of it in the end. I've used traktor and serrato but at present have no interest in switching

    3 pioneer cdjs
    pioneer 800 mixer
once played with a dedicated filter on the master.huge knobs for each band and then one for either a low pass/hight pass on the master.im pretty sure it was custom but it was really nice.
    thats it really.
    oh and decent monitors

This is a nice thread, so I thought I'd resurrect it.

Mine would be Traktor Scratch Pro, with a Macbook Pro, 2 Technics, 2 CDJ 2000s and a Xone:4D, something like a pair of Beyerdynamic DT100, and a sound set-up like the Twisted Pepper. All set-up in a lovely custom made wooden set-up.

no not yet but it's only a matter of time. urei make some fancy rotaries yeah?

I've been using urei gear for years so I would imagine I'll like them.

Would actually like a nice rotary mixer.

I had to play on a 600 with rotary faders in the Shaw a few weeks ago, didn't know what to think...Definitely didn't prefer it to normal faders though.

yeah i think its more of a style thing.i used to play on one quite regularly(Rane) and i hated it for peaktime sets but during the warm ups it was great, nice and smooth.

id imagine it would suit your deep house stuff jeff.

    vestax make some rotaries(love vestax)

id still opt for upfader though

Pretty happy with my current setup of a Macbook, VCI-100, Audio 2 DJ and and Traktor Pro right now. The new digital Xone's are tasty but pricey and not exactly very portable.

I can currently head out to gigs with one inconspicuous looking backpack containing everything I need. It's well handy. Brought it out last weekend on a just-in-case and ended playing in a club and then playing for a few hours at an afterparty too. It's almost no hassle to bring with me. Some people may not exactly love my type of setup but you can't deny it's many advantages.

how are you getting to grips with the mac Zas

I do like it but I'm definitely no Mac fanboy. As a laptop in general, its brilliant. Light and portable, fantastic battery life, looks and feels great. Absolutely adore the multitouch scrolling I think its a travesty Apple kept that for themselves and did not allow it on all laptops. I got used to the new shortcuts etc, has never given me any problems with my music setup, pretty much always 'just works' as I was told it would. Saying that it's not 'perfectly problem free' as some would have to believe. Had some networking issues and it has 'stalled' a number of times.

The little bit of photos and movies stuff I tried drove me nuts, I went running back to xp.
