The next June bank holiday weekend May 29th - June 1st sees the launch of fledgling non-profit organisation Peace Zone. The launch, which takes place on May 30th in the Peace Tent at Charleville Castle’s annual World Cultures Fair Day Shakefest, will be gathering a crowd of people willing to become actively involved in progressing Peace on an International level. The weekend itself is a celebration of Peace through Art in all its forms.

Musicians, artists, returned aid workers and volunteers or simply partisans of a better world are invited to join up and “COME CAMP FOR PEACE’’ in the beautiful surroundings of Charleville Castle in Tullamore, Co. Offaly. Membership to Peace Zone is only €10 and gives entrance to Shakefest’s many activities and one night free camping within the castle grounds. New members are welcome to join at the gate on the Friday (gates open at 6pm) and stay for only €10 per extra night camping.

A wide range of manifestations will take place at the castle on the Saturday. A forum on the theme “Ireland Must Pioneer Civilian Peacekeeping Operations” will be open for discussion to all members after the screening of Jeremy Gilley’s documentary ‘A DAY AFTER PEACE’ starring the Dalai Lama, Kofi Anan, Jude Law and Angelina Jolie. A holistic fair and many exotic market stalls will brighten your journey through the launch of Peace Zone as well as an extensive selection of dance and drum workshops such as flamenco, salsa, circus skills and bellydancing. Towards the end of the day, live music will be provided by some of the member artists Lauren Guillery, Oliver Cole (ex-Turn), SuperJimenez, Erik Noon & The Future Gypsies, The Bionic Rats, Ian Doyle (ex-Chaplin) and Leanne Harte as well as a dance performances by the Red Embers and Starfire Circus bellydance troupes.
