    Hi guys,
I got a Dell inspiron 6400 from the outlet about 2 years ago with the 3 year warranty, next day collect and return.
(It says fifth business day on the website, whatever that is exactly)

Anyway its been dying a bad death for the last while since my nephew got his hands on it. Dont know what happened to it but im thinking milk/water damage

Today it went and wont start.

So im wondering what laptop will Dell send me as a replacement?
Can i choose something of the same value as what i paid?
    Or how does it work?
    Thanks...

i doubt milk/water damage will be covered by a warranty.

From when I used to work there I dont think you will be covered.... The warranty you have only covers parts failing because of faults in them, not accidental damage.

They used to have extra warranty which you could get which was called 'complete care' and did cover drops and spills and the like, but most people didnt bother with that.

If you dont have that you are not covered. Even if you deny the spillage and get it collected and play dumb, once they open it and see water damage they will return it unfixed.

    Sorry

Like said above if it's water damage they probably won't touch it.

Lets not pretend we're all good samaritans. Make no mention of water damage or milk or anything. Your laptop simply does not work. they will get you to go through tests and a few checks, if nothing sorts it then they will schedule an engineer to call out to have a look. Let him replace what ever parts they deem necessary and see does it fix the laptop. I doubt, as you wish, that you will be offered a replacement first time round. Hell my XPS has been repaired ..1..2..3.....4... a lot of times and still no replacement. Try your luck and see what happens, play dumb and let them sort it.

He says he's "Don't know what happened to it but I'm thinking water/milk damage" but he doesn't know for sure? What if there is no water or milk damage? What if his nephew did nothing , and for example the Hard drive is just failing making everything grind to a halt. If he can't 100% say "yes I know water spilled on that laptop", then I fail to see why he needs to mention it.

It's not really insurance fraud as he doesn't have insurance on it. Plus as majikktrip points out he isn't sure what happened to it, he's only speculating.
