so i started a new exercise programme on tues and i guess i over did the split squats
(only cos i was shown in morning, did it myself in evening, asked instructor for help cos i wasnt sure i was doin it right and then i did it right a few more times)

Being completely exhausted after the interval cardio i went home and stupidly didnt stretch out (not that i knew i was meant to do it being completely new to any kind of exercise programme)
and basically i am semi crippled in my quads now, stairs and toileting are the worst and i cant walk uphill easily either.... which if you live in cork, which i do, is a balls....

i did manage to do a session of yoga yesterday, my first ever, and we did stretch in that but twas too late really....

anything i can do to help my recovery?
am afraid to go back to gym til its better.
    Thanks

Don't know if there's much you can do to aid recovery.

Wouldn't worry too much about them. They'll go away inside a week.

Sounds normal for a beginner. Enjoy it while it lasts, lots of people miss DOMS (Delayed onset muscle soreness) once they've been training a while - lets them know they've really given it socks in the gym.

its always worst after squats etc, but once you're body adapts to the new training it will go away.

Could you please infrom my legs of that? I have to train legs on a fridays, because I'm crippled for at least 2 days after leg day. However you are right, perversly I do enjoy the pain.

    Hot Bath with Epsom salts.

You can get Epsom Salts in most Pharmacies.
It helps draw the lactic acid out of the muscles.

    It works too, IME.

    Sorry to slightly hijack -

Is it normal to not only feel this in your quads but also your knees? I've only recently begun to perform squats and it seems that my knees are still not used to that sort of movement. I presume this all occurs when you start a new exercise? I'm going ATG btw.

im no expert vamoose but it could be that your not driving through your heels. I felt pain in my knees when i was starting because i put too much weight on my toes and my heels started lifting.

Could be the tight quads pullinh gon the patellar tendon of the knee. Try strectching dynamically and statically and massage the quads after a workout.
