Anyone know the best (preferably Kevlar) tyre (26x1.95) for a MTB. Took off a puncture and wondering if it's worth replacing the original Trek issue Bontragers. They're not especially worn but:
a.) I'd like something as puncture resistant as possible, especially off-road.
b.) There is crack damage (likely cause UV/dampness) on the sides of the original tyre.

Something I noticed - the tyres are branded Bontrager in big white lettering but in tiny print they bear the Kenda legend. In my very simplistic knee-jerk opinion about tyres Bontrager = 'mediocre' and Kenda = 'pure ****e'...

There is no "best" mtb tyre. It all depends on the conditions you'll be riding in.

If you want puncture resistance go tubeless.

Dont bother with tubeless. a lot of hassle, new rims, hard to change on spin....

best value all round tyre for xc is maxxis advantage.
    about €20 online.

if u dont want any more punctures throw some sludge tubes into them.
    away you go.

You don't need new rims to go tubeless. You can by kits these days from the likes of Cycleogical. The whole purpose of going tubeless is that you will have less punctures and less rolling resistance. I've only ever had to take the tyres of my bike once and that was to stick on a new set and I had no problems doing it.

I'm with Morgan on this - go Tubeless!
