    Hello,

I am seriously considering purchasing a 944 S2 as my daily driver. Mainly because I'm fickle but also because I'm finding the performance of my W201 2.0 a little lacklustre - oh and I can't fit a mountain bike fully in the boot.

So the car would be need to have everyday practicality and the missus would have to be able to drive on days when I need the Subaru.

I can't see myself racking up any more than 6-7,000 miles a year, as I tend to drive into work on a Monday, cycle in and out for the week and drive home on a Friday.

Anyway can any of you guys give me some advice as to what to look for when buying, am I being realisitic with my practicality expectations and......will i fit a bike in the boot!?

    Appreciate any advice.

    dc

AFAIK they have a pretty big boot, don't know about a bike though.
A friend of mine has a collection of Porsches, sold his 944 recently.
Was a beautifull track car, he now uses the 911's as his track cars.

I have been thinking of buying a 944S2 myself and have done some reading on it. Things to look for (from memory)
Cam rollers - I think these have to be changed fairly regularly and is quite a big job.
Brake Calipers - I think the calipers need to be rebuilt when the plates start separating. Bigish job.
Rust - Sills and lower front wings. A lot of people ask for photos taken inside the door vent on the shut panel looking back.
They seem to be really well built and a lot of them run up huge mileages and still command decent money. I'd say there'd be a big difference between a well maintained and badly maintained example whatever the mileage though. Have a look on pistonheads and the Porsche Club GB for more info.

I just sold my 944 they are very reliable and practical as long as you are not trying to fit a bike in the back.

    hi lads
you should consider the 944turbo,No cam worries as its has a single overhead cam.No chain between cams to worry about.also it is only 2.5litre as opposed to the s2;s 3litre so 300euro cheaper to tax. Finally its 250bhp, S2 comes in at 211bhp.turbo944 is also more tunablefor more power.
    happy hunting lads.

I am driving my LHD 944 turbo as my everyday car at the minute. I am going between Galway and Letterkenny at least once a week. I was charged with transporting delicate medical equipment last week. It all fitted no probs. You CAN fit a full size bike in a 944 if you take the front wheel off. Not that bad on fuel either 26-28mpg ..!

As far as saying the €4k isnt worth it for a turbo - The kick of the K26 and flames belching from the exhaust is priceless. On a long journey they are fantastic. Even my missus says she dosent find it tiring to be in.

As far as an S2 goes the road tax is a scandal €1523 ... Even an NA 2.5 is €935 .. The VRT on an S2 is about €2000 ...That p**ck Brian Lenihan bahhhh. S2's are a great machine keep your eyes peeled..

was over in uk in the 930, see modified motors for pic, but a 944 dropped by the workshop. It was a 944 that this fella spent two years rebuilding. Just look at the engine, oversized pistons are in it but wow, i'd be afraid to use it.
