My mate got one from there and it was caught by customs, another person I know got one on ebay and was caught too. I got mine from ebay from china too and got it with no customs though. I think the customs hit was €25-30

Even if you're hit by customs, you still save a wee bit...plus if you're lucky enough not to be stung by customs then you really are getting a bargain

I always use the "drop shipment and gift service" and have never been stopped by customs, and I've bought a hell of a lot of stuff including mobiles phones etc.

    I dunno. No warranty available...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 736 ✭✭✭johnp

    Certainly looks like a bargain!

Out of interest, if one were to purchase an R4 on DX, what would someone usually go for? There seems to be lots of different options.

real r4's are not being made anymore and there isn't new updated firmware for these "new" r4's. best avoid.

Dunno if that will be much help. They already put low values on the stuff, and no invoice is in the packet. If customs see an odd phone they might let it pass, they do not know the value. Everybody knows a DS is worth more than the €22/45 limit.

hmmm, forgive my complete lack of knowledge about these things, but does that mean if I buy this DS, I won't be able to get a R4 to work in it?

Here's what I've come up with

    DS Lite

    DSTT

    4GB SDHC

All for €75 delivered (or €88 for EMS delivery)

This is all I need, right?

I was looking at these a few weeks back but if you go through the discussions across the range there's some dodgy stories.
In the end went for a used DS from Gamestop, €85 with 3 month warranty, first one I got was dodgy and a simple return to the shop fixed me up with a new one, you won't have this with the DX option
AFAIK battery life was variable as they have generic batterys

Dodgy story: Only ever ordered once from dealextreme. 2 x 8GB SONY memory sticks. When they arrived I tried them out and found they were fakes.

Whether you get hit for customs or not is all down to the carrier AFAIK. If your stuff is deliverd via DHL you will definitley get hit if your item is above the import allowance. DHL have to declare everything.

And I think Gamestop are doing them for 85 and Xtravision for 80 ish.
After doing some searching I think I'd be happier/safer buying the console from them and the extras from dX.

Can't be sure about this as I dont have a DS, let alone a DSTT. But it looks like DSTT takes a microSD/microSDHC not SDHC which is what you linked to.

Saw one refurbished here for €65 with free delivery from Irelands. Seem pretty good. Never heard of the website though? Does anyone have any experience with them?

    thanks

My daughters broke, so we took it out to a place in bray, they are giving her a new screen and case(choice of colour) and it only cost €60 altogether. You can post to them too, I'm not sure if I can put up the link to them here.

Console repairs Ireland are the crowd based in Bray

GSM solutions in Dublin are another option, there isnt great stories about them on boards though for other repairs. I also believe they dont repair DS' on site, not sure though.

Then there is some consoledoc guy in Athlone, dont know about him :pac:

Noticed in Gamestop recently they were advertising second hand DS-phats for €45. Cant remember the price of the lite unfortunately, but seeing as its now €100~ new you might be able to pick up a good quality second hand one for the same price as a repair.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,264 ✭✭✭witnessmenow

You'll pick up a second hand DS lite for in and around the €80 in the shops so unless the DS is badly water damaged its still probably worth your while at least getting a price to fix it.

I've bought 2 second hand ones for my 2 kids in the last few weeks.

1st one was a pink one (excellent condition) with case, charger, spare pens, 2 games. All for €40

2nd was a white one (literally brand new) with case, charger, 3 spare pens, 2 games, strap, cleaning cloth etc: All for €50

Add in the cost of 2 R4 SDHC cards at €34 (I already had the micro SD cards to put in them) and it's about €120 for them both.

There are bargains to be picked up if you look about

    :D
