    sonalksis compressor,logics compressor,logics inbuilt effects.
lately ive been using monomaker by destroy fx.(free)
also adm by audirealism.its a 808,909,606 emanulation.i only really use it for toms though
looking for a good reverb plug.i like space designer but want another option

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭jtsuited

    for compression my favourites are:

UAD 1176, UAD Neve 33609, the compressor on the UAD Neve 88rs has it's moments, Sonalksis compressor, Logic's inbuilt compressor for sidechaining (the BEST compressor for sidechaining by a million miles!!!!!).

EQ: UAD Pultec, UAD Neve 88rs, Sonalksis Eq (still my favourite EQ).

Quick Hi pass/lo pass: logic's own single band eq's.

    Automated Filters: Sonalksis TBK

    Fun filter: Logic's Autofilter

    Stereo Width: Logic's Sample delay.

Reverb: Space Designer ( for the reverse and built in eq functions), UAD Plate (obvious I know), Platinum Verb for that Dubfire style spooky reverb hangs.

Delays : Yup Logic's tape delay. Oh and Logic's stereo delay.

Manglers: Camelaudio Camelphat, and CamelSpace (avoid the presets like the plague).

Mastering: Logic's compression with feck all GR and the output distortion set to 'soft' (like hitting the 'awesome' button).
Flux plugins (probably the best mastering plugs ever - and the demo is hilariously unlimited).
Uad Neve 33609, occasionally an 1176, parallel with the Fairchild 670 (without a doubt the best compressor I've ever heard - pity about the bottom end).
Precision Maximizer (I'm going to audiophile hell for the way I abuse that plugin).

that's all i can think of for the moment.

    McDsp G-Console, dynamics and EQ.
    Digidesign EQ 3
    Cranesong Dark Essence.
    URS Graphic EQ's

    Bombfactory Putlecs.
    Bomb Factory Fairchild 660

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,892 ✭✭✭madtheory

Bomb Factory is cool alright, I love the BF76. I don't think the Digi EQ3 is any good, I've pretty much replaced it with RND Unequalizer.

I use the Sonalkasis CQ1 Multi-Band Compander on vocals and Rcompressor
I use the Sonakasis MultiLimit - Multiband Mastering Limiter to cut and shape.
    I use Renaissance Reverb.
    Drums I use Liquid mix

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 229 ✭✭bedbugs

    reverb: UAD Plate 140

compression: Loads of the Liquid Mix ones

for messing things up: jack dark plugs, ohmboyz, absynth fx, UAD RE-201

not at all. price has dropped right down. got mine from digital village for 400euro

would normally take a lot of messing about to get it sorted in PT le due to the huge delay but with the new mellowmuse delay comp its easy

    Sorry to hijack thread.

DT is this the version you are using.

    http://www.focusrite.com/products/liquid/liquid_mix_hd/

If so I presume it works as RTAS on LE ?

DT Ignore this.I see from the other post what you have. I assume they are all the same either way.

    Thanks.

    Lots of interesting answers, thanks.

Has anyone tried "The Glue" from Cytomic? They are all raving about it on Gearslutz. It's a Bus compressor.

for the price its a steal and the "mix" knob makes it perfect for new york style drum compression. also rtas on the way soon. if i needed another comp i'd buy it in a whistle.

plus andy seems like a really good guy.

if you're gonna buy it be quick, price is going up to 200 soon as 100 was just an intro offer.

Hmm, thanks for the advise. I didn't know it was going up in price.

Has anyone tried the Metric Halo channel strip? If so, what did you think?

it's good at what it does. in fact it's great at what it does.

a little too clean for me, but if you're looking for a highend transparent multipurpose mega-handy channel strip, it's fantastic.

Yeah, I had a demo of it for a few weeks. It definitely adds a bit of polish.

    Anyone for T Racks 3?

I have used the Tracks plug ins on a vocal and guitar and then taken them off. I heard the opto compressor was amazing but in actuality from a subjective yet objective point of view I felt these plugins have 2 major flaws.

    1. They are not cpu friendly not that it matters to me but they are system hog if it does matter.

    2. The characteristics of the sound is kinda mushy and fluffy not what I was hoping for. Think audio mushrooms.

I wanted to love these plugins but I cant they suck but there is always a chance they will do something good somewhere sometime.

Yeah I saw this one through Gearslutz. The guy who created it, Mr Frindle I think, worked for some of the majors.

It's a shame it doesn't run on a few more DAWs.

Yes you have said this is one of your favorite plugs I'll have to check it out. Would you describe it's characteristics please? Where do you tend to use it and in what way does the modulation it creates enhance the feeling of the music?
    Thanks :)

I don't understand why but to my lugs everything sounds right all the time - a little slapback, tons of repeats? - equally great.

And it sits in a track like it grew there. Brilliant!

I actually hate this phrase. Some of the best plugins are ridiculously cheap, while some expensive ones are not so great.

Compare Waves Vs PSP, and while Waves has some great stuff, I usually prefer PSP. + there are even some awesome free plugins like SIR.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭jtsuited

it's one of those nuggets of 'conventional wisdom' that when investigated logically turns out to be horse-sh1t and is normally peddled by those who will directly profit from the popularity of such a sentiment.

Look you don't need to explain to me that you can eat a cheap meal that tastes nicer than an expensive one; I know that, I am a man that likes a good quality cheap meal after all. When it comes down to it Waves and PSP we all know they are two different dishes, whatever you fancy, personally I use PSP rarely... if you are going to big up a plug-in would you please explain where and why you use and recommend it as opposed to preaching about the rights and wrongs of our perception of quality and buying over priced junk (God I am such a naive fool thanks for showing me the light lads). Paul has mentioned this plug in before in article 4000009993, so the phrase you get what you pay for is coming from my trust in Paul's ability to recommend an amazing high quality plug-in. The company can therefore charge a high price because they have created a useful tool. None of the PSP plug-in range do what the echo boy can do so get off my friggin case with your objectivity and subjectivity. If you can recommend a plug in that can produce the same effect as the echo boy for a cheaper price than bravo but frankly I couldn't care less, I certainly don’t need to be preached to, if I did I would have spent the day at mass ...

Hey lads take it easy. No need to loose the cool.

Anyway I think the two of you are right to be honest.

The good stuff is expensive because it has a good rep.

Some of the lower priced stuff is really good too. Even some of the free stuff sounds good.

Anyway Dav, tell us about those high quality inexpensive meals you've been having.:D

The waves fairchild 660 is the bomb on close nit steel string picking style country/folk . The T-racks fairchild sounds like a bad joke in comparison. I want the Waves 660 but that bundle is 450, way too much money but I would buy the Jack Joesph collection just for Waves version it's outstanding, really thick and crisp on acoustic guitar steel string. I am dissapointed in the T-racks version I taught it would answer my prayers.

No I actually have the t-racks pultec, it comes bundled with the fairchild. So far I've just been using it to crank up 5k on mixes and vocals...
But yeah t-racks will do me for now, it's fairly inexpensive anyway...
