    A Scary thought this.

Granted, they're only currently being tested, and only currently earmarked for buses and taxi's in the UK, but I couldn't live with this type of restriction myself. I imagine, should something like this become commonplace, that a speed-delimiting service would quickly start raking in the money.

The system in Australia seem particularly pointless when there's a switch on the dash to disable the device, though personally that's the only feature that would get me to keep one of these "things" stuck to my cars.

The effectiveness of new anti-speeding technology to be trialed in New South Wales has been questioned, because drivers will be able to override the system.

Forty of the Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) units will be trialled on Wollongong roads next month and the State Government says that one day it could be a standard feature in all cars.

But New South Wales Roads Minister Michael Daley says motorists will be able to override the system.

Thousands of taxis, buses and council vehicles could be fitted with devices that prevent them from exceeding the speed limit.

The technology — known as Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) — is being tested by Transport for London in a trial starting this summer on all roads inside the M25.

Right so my intro is probably a little bit of scaremongering but hell, I really hate this idea.

[edit]Just seen there is another post on this, may be an idea to merge 'em[/edit]

i just made a thread about this. i hate the idea more than you. i'm no tinfoil hat wearer but i for one cant stand this modern culture of over-regulation in the name of safety. let people do what they want and suffer the consequences rather than restricting people's freedom over what-ifs

I agree fully. The very thought of this makes my skin crawl

unfortunately some people actually agree with these far-reaching technological methods of law enforcement and its going to be hard to reverse the current trend towards over-regulation.

as long as the 'off' button stays in place and the system doesn't phone home i dont mind a bit. but anything mandatory with no disable option is bad news
