I'm currently doing a course in wedding planning. I'm looking to get some hands on experience organising a wedding. I'm offering my help totally free of charge, ideally to someone that hasn't a clue where to start organising their own wedding.

If anyone is interested please pm me!

    Louise

Hey Abi - are you looking at long-term (ie: my missus is just starting the process for September 2010 and has no idea where to begin!) or short-term (someone who only has a few months to go) ?
    :)

I'm looking to start with somebody from the beginging of their preparations, which really needs to be done well in advance. So long term is perfect.

    Hi,

But, if you are trying to make your wedding the most memorable event in your life then the best way to make is by considering the wedding planning advice.

I don't think that this is always the case. Obviously some people like to use wedding planners but the thing that made it all the more memorable for me was that I organised the whole thing myself. The time leading up to my wedding was the most special time in my life because I was up to my neck in the organisation. I loved every minute of it and don't think I would have been as proud on the day if someone else had done all the organising.

But as I've said before, everyone to their own!!!

    Hi there,

My wife is a wedding planner and she saves people hundreds and in some cases thousands by helping them plan their wedding. She doesn't take over, she just lets the bride pick and choose where they need help so you can hold onto as much organisation or as little as you want, even if you only require someone there on the day to make sure everything goes well for you. She has discounts with many suppliers which she passes on directly to the brides. Its not always about the wedding planner taking over, its what they can do for you. BTW abi2007, good luck with your new venture, My wife loves her job and I'm sure you will to!

How much does a wedding planner cost?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 irishcarbomb2k

The cost of a wedding planner depends on the wedding planner. Some are fee based and only cost what it says on the tin, others charge a percentage of the total wedding cost which in some cases can be cheaper. my wife for example is percentage based but if you decide to go with suppliers she recommends or indeed your own, she will negotiate the best price for you. She could save you her entire fee and then some as she uses suppliers all the time and she is in a better position to offer them more business plus she has good negotiating powers!:D

    What percentage?

So your missus gets paid more if the wedding gets more expensive. That doesn't sound good.

Nope, she doesn't get more expensive if the wedding gets more expensive, all the fees are agreed before she is hired. So say your wedding budget is 20k, her fee is 2k (this is really only a rough example. She could potentially save her clients this fee and more by negotiating with suppliers on your behalf). This really varies on how much or little work you want her to do. If its just the day or the whole wedding. The fee does not change unless there are things that the client wants her to do that is outside the contract, for example if the client only wanted her to be at the venue until dinner is served and changes her mind and wants her there the whole night. Those things. Her fee has to be agreed in advance of the client signing the contract with her so the client knows exactly what they are paying. Most people just want her there to decorate the venue, or give ideas on what they can do and then be there on the day to decorate the venue and make sure everything goes to what the client wishes. The job can be so varied and no two weddings can be the same thats why its hard to put a set price on it.
