    I have three columns like so;

    A B C
    1 1 2 1
    2 2 3 4
    3 4 4 1

    When I use the formula =sum(A1:A3) in the cell A4 I get a total of 7, which is correct.

    Problem
    When I drag this formula accross cells B4 & C4 I still get the total of 7, i.e. the formula result relating to Cell A4 is being copied accross. Only when I press the 'F2' key on each of the cells B4 & C4 do I get the correct totals, 9 and 6 respectively.

    How can I solve it that whenever I drag a formula accross several cells the forumla will follow, negating the need to keep on hitting the 'F2' key?

    Is your calculations mode set to Manual rather than Automatic? You can find it under options - calculations.

    Are you sure the formula in A4 is correct cause when i tried it like you have it, it copies fine. =Sum(A1:A3)
    Why don't you use the autosum function thats like an E on the tool bar?

    Per first reply, it's almost certainly a calculation setting. Fix it as follows:

    Tools | Options... |[calculation tab] Click the radio button for Automatic calculation
