Budapest, Ideas Eurotrip?

I am just begining to think of where to take my annual July Eurotrip, last summer I spent 5 nights in Prague and really enjoyed it. I am thinking of Budapest this year after scrapping plans I had for Bucharest.

I have never been to Budapest or Hungary for that matter, but I have done some small amounts of reading up on it and have come up with a small plan. Flights being the biggest obstacle as I live in Kerry and either Cork or Kerry airports serve me best. I am thinking of doing a week Eurotrip to Budapest for 4 or 5 nights and then taking the train to Prague (love the place) for another 2 or three nights before taking another train to Berlin and staying a night and getting Aer Lingus home to Cork from Berlin. I am very familiar with Prague and like the cities excellent public transport and real cultural feel. I also plan to dip my toes in Berlin with an eye to taking a return trip next summer or in Winter as part of my Christmas Market plans.

Ideally I would like a comparison of the two as I was tempted to just do Prague again but that gets stale. A friend has highly recommended Budapest over my original plan to go to Romania and Buchurest, which he describes as dump filled with corrupt cops and scam merchants. It was a long time since he was there but I don't think I will ever chance it on my own compared to the relative safety I feel in Western and Central Europe.

I would prefer to fly between cities but but it is incredibly expensive and Budapest to Prague is nearly €200 one-way with both Malev and CSA. So trains it is:o I am not a fan of trains bar Deutsh Bahn (absolute heaven).

Any hotels or unusual things to see along the way? I was in Germany in March and had a blast and am really hooked on Europe and it could be a long time again before uncle sams sees me.

4/5 days in Budapest may be a bit much IMO. Dead outside the weekend. Loads to see there but not quite that much. Cant offer any advice on the other 2 though....
