I have a 99 1.25 fiesta, it is an LX,
It’s due a timing belt change.
I want to know does the valve clearance need to be checked when timing belt is done?
I asked but was told on the phone from a main dealer that they're hydraulic but surely this doesn't preclude checking the clearances?
I'm concerned that even if I bring it up they still wont do it and this is a main dealership, how will I tell. NCT is coming up I dont want to wait till then to find out emissions are up??

I should say I'm not even certain that they are hydraulic tappets, no mention of it in the haynes manual and the limited diagrams say bucket tappets and shims, which would suggest checking the clearances especially after timing belt change??

I would hazard a guess that it's mechanical with shims. At least the 1.6 Zetec-SE Focus is and they are the same family of engines.

BTW. Focus needs first check of tappets at 150k km along with timing belt.

    thanks
the more I looked at information available the more it seems it is conventional tappets with shims, I just dont know why the garage is trying to say it is hydraulic other than they think I dont have a clue and are trying to get away with work
