Is there any way to get the programs I've recorded on this box off the box and on to my PC? The manual on upc.ie doesn't mention anything.

Only if you have a video capture card. You can send the SCART output to a PC and record the programs. There is no way to do it via USB / Ethernet.

Does anyone know what the USB and Ethernet connections are for on the UPC Digibox? I plugged in an MP3 player to the USB to see if it would work and nothing happened. I was thinking it would be great if the Ethernet was in fact an internal cable modem. Perhaps they are there for future elements of cable? It would make a lot of sense.

I plug the LAN cable to my Vista PC, and opened internet browser, after I was asked to enter the SID or username and password, to manage my services. Does someone know it this is the way to get access to the recorded movies or just to access the paid chanels?

Read the previous posts, it's a cable modem.

If it would be just a modem, it wouldn't ask for usename and password to manage the box services. It would just pass the internet. I called the customer service, and she didn't want to give me the login details.

It's doesn't state anywhere on that page about managing the box services.
That is the page for a modem yet to be provisioned against a customers account. The standard cable modem shows the same page when first connected.

Where I live UPC broadband service isn't available, so all I get is a status screen saying it can't access the service. It's quite possible that in areas where it is available, you get through to a next level where the broadband service needs to be configured. In any case, even if you have UPC broadband available, they don't actually deliver it through the DVR boxes modem, that's probably reserved for future VOD services rather than broadband delivery.

Also UPC will only deliver broadband using their supplied equipment, now a Cisco/Linksys wireless cable modem / router, so it's not surprising the UPC rep told you to get lost, especially if you haven't paid for it.

I have broadband 10MB line paid for as well the TV subscription. She just told me that they don't support access to recorded material on the box at the moment.

Can you advice me how I can access the recorded movies other then plug DVD recorder in to it.

They don't need ethernet for VOD, that's what the cable modem does. The ethernet / USB ports are solely to use the box as a modem. Same reason it has phone ports.

So why are you trying to access the internet through the boxes cable modem? because that is all it is.
She just told me that they don't support access to recorded material on the box at the moment.
Which is true, and what we have been telling you and everybody else who asks this question here with monotonous regularity all along.

Listen to us, and the nice lady from UPC, will you? YOU CAN'T DIRECTLY ACCESS THE RECORDINGS ON THE BOX, FULL STOP, END OF STORY!!!!!

Sorry, you did. :o People here often say the ethernet is for VOD, which I'd doubt very much. :)

    They NEVER will support it

There is no way, unless you want to write a custom OS to read the disk.

NO, it's the new type of Cisco/Linksys router. your password does not work.

I was guessing that the inbuilt cable modem could possibly be used for delivering VOD content internally to the box itself, no mention of the external Ethernet interface anywhere in that post. OK, maybe it won't be used for that, I don't know and neither does anyone else it seems, but seeing as UPC aren't actively supporting the modem for anything else, and definitely not normal broadband provision, it has to be in there for something.
