    Support added...

Everyone who visits the dance section of boards should take a few seconds to click the link above and add their support - look on it as being a way to help and promote the further growth of electronic music in Ireland. Also, should you ever decide to try your hand at production, you will have a wonderful resource right here to go and ask some questions. Failing that, if you decide electronic music is no longer for you, then you can visit the current Music Production forum and discuss how to mic a drum kit or what desk to use for recording a 12-piece metal band :pac:

Now, wtf are you waiting for? :D

Please though folks, keep it civil on that thread in the forums forum.

There is no hope of getting the forum approved if it turns into a Music Production forum V Dance music forum battle.

i honestly cant get over how opposed beruthiel(the admin) is to the idea though.quite shocking really

In fairness that's not true. The only Mod from the MP Forum that has posted on the Forum request thread has been quite fair regarding the request.

Keep your fingers crossed lads, although some mods do seem really opposed to it :(

Its getting really stupid at this stage.

The MP forum chaps don't want to let their forum be undermined or something, but like for christs sake its the internet at the end of the day, if we want to have a production forum why can't they just give us one.

Like in all fairness its just a subforum of a forum on boards, its hardly the most crucial decision of the century.

I dont see why they are being so petty....

Why is there so much red tape on boards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,111 ✭✭✭joker77

I didn't understand it when they wouldn't give us a dedicated DJ forum, don't understand it now.

It seems pretty strange considering some of the forums that DO get approved, and then are hardly if ever used...

If you are chummy with the top mods you can get any old ****e forum created. It's not red tape it's just clique stuff. Happens everywhere unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

I cant stress the importance of patience here guys. One way to guarentee that the forum isnt created is a lot of bitchyness (either here or on the thread in the forums forum).

The case has been made and made well. Its time to be patient and let the Admin group decide. Dont give any reasons for the forum to be denied

I can't stand this attitude and frankly it's complete nonsense.
My fellow Admins were all picked because of their impartiality, fairness and their ability to look at every request on it's own merit.
There is no 'clique' in the Admin group, there are adults, who have no problem coming to a decision on their own.

For some reason, which I cannot fathom, there is an awful lot of that in the request thread. To the extent, where I will be taking no further part in it.

I see where you're coming from here, but there's a lot of lads on here who were really looking forward to the creation of this sub-forum.

The whole idea came about because someone mentioned quite offhand 'maybe we could have a dedicated dance music production subforum', and then a plethora of people immediately chimed in with 'great idea, make it happen, etc.'.

I think what you're perceiving as 'bitchiness' is actually just frustrated enthusiasm and gusto.

Just to give a little more context -

did you see how quickly the lads set up the Kitchen Sync radio station?

They're mad into what they do (as am I) and I think it's a mixture of impatience, enthusiasm, and anxiety about the idea being rejected - it would be a crying shame if it was.

Many of us here don't really have friends who are into dance music (as has been discussed many times here), so this place means a lot.

To be so excited about something (and you can see there are a lot of people VERY excited about the idea) and to then see the possibility of it not happening is always going to be annoying.

Like I said over in the thread in Forums, it's clear you're taking all this on board and being very fair imo. Especially considering that the somewhat related issues of the Music Production forum have been brought to light (fairly inelegantly by myself and a few others) by this fairly understandable subforum request .

not to antagonize the situation here but i am genuinely curious as to what the conversation was between the admins when requests for forums such as zombie survival, frisbee, skylarkin.
i understand this takes a bit of time and while you may have been playing devils adviocate in the thread you do come across as someone who isnt going to support the idea.
and seeing as how your the only admin who has posted on the thread this is causing some frustration among the people supporting it especially as you may influence the decision when you explain the request to the other admins(if thats how it works)

All before my time so I have no clue how decisions were made back then.

Things have totally changed since then.
The site is much, much bigger. Resulting in extra Amins being added and a structure brought into the proceedings.
you do come across as someone who isnt going to support the idea.

Someone has to ask the dirty questions. In this case, that's me.
seeing as how your the only admin who has posted on the thread

I'm not the only one to have read it though.

    I don't explain the request.
I link to the request thread and they read it for themselves.

fair enough but its the way your asking them.you come across as someone who doesnt want this forum.much like in another thread you judged me by my posts(and i by yours) people are percieving the way you ask these "dirty questions" as opposition to the idea.
perhaps if you did make your opinion clear people wouldnt have to read too much into what your posting

For the love of all that is good, please just give us this forum so we can all go about our daily posting! Obviously there are a lot of enthusiastic electronic music producers on here and we would love our own little "niche" forum...give it a chance and if it doesnt work, just close it!

What the big deal is I dont know...its like pulling teeth trying to get this new forum up...worse than trying to get an xtravision membership!

Just be patient lads. The request was only made a week ago.

If every request was granted there'd be 10 billion forums!
At the moment Boards is up to 9.5 billion forums but 10 would be just too many.

    Patience Daniel-son, patience.

dr.bollocko is a moderator and a popular one - his request for a Classic Rock forum was made last year and still hasn't been approved. So maybe just lose the mod-related paranoia.

Classic rock forum was a stupid idea when half the Rock & Metal threads are about old bands. All that would do is slow down both forums being detrimental to them both. It's not like the R&M forum is at AH level of posting. Perfectly valid reason for denial. And if i recall correctly Cmod Karl Hungus was strongly against such an idea.

I understand what you are saying but so many stupid forums have been created from idea's from a certain group of people who know each other from boards beers or whatever, ideas that if some random punter came up with they would be told to get lost. And rightly so.

Read the thread and come up with a reason why that request would be detrimental to boards.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

My point though, is that mods don't get pointless forums created for them because of support from their mod buddies.

It seem's boards has been cleaned up a good bit of the utterly pointless fad forums that last a few days then lay there like baron waste land. But there was plenty. Hasselhoff, chuck norris, wanderly wagon, frisbee etc. None of them would of been patronised like this btw.
Sorry, I wasn't aware that the Music Production forum was just for rock music.
Can you link me to where it says that please?

Kind of kicked off the hostilities. 3 pages of reason's why it's a good idea to have that sort of reply? Im sorry no chance that would ever happen on a forum request who the admins were friendly with.

ah to be fair, beruthiel had no idea the situation with that forum, and on finding out seemed to see our point of view.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,368 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

Wow , such an amazing coincidence that an admin would start a thread like this

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055571894

so thats how things are done here.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 873 ✭✭✭Four-Percent

Indeed, it doesn't seem like a good omen - perhaps we have been too pushy/downright rude in our attempts :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,368 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

Maybe i shouldnt have posted the answer i did so. ha ha , couldnt resist. fukkit.

TBH, there's more going on here than is being said, maybe a general anti dance/electronica policy of sorts. I see someone mentioned the greif that was encountered when this forum was being set up so obviously theres an issue somewhere. I also notice that virtually all the answers on that thread were from MP mods. I know they want to protect their forum and dont want it losing traffic but this kind of patronisation is sad.
