According to IMDb, the new Disney Pixar film Up is scheduled to be released in the USA on the 29th May, and in the UK on the 16th of October. Wtf? Whats up with the massive delay? Even New Zealand are getting it on the 18th of June, why cant we get it here at the same time (i assume that since ireland is specified they are going to lump us in with the uks release date). They did this with Ratatouille, it seems as if they want everyone in the uk to download a cinema pirate, hell by october the DVD will probably be out in the US.:mad::mad:

    It happens all the time the most recent ones in my memory are Gran Torino and Coraline and then the Studios give out about "illegal downloading" and piracy but its better than it used to be I recall waiting for nearly a year before you would see some films {this is the early 80s before VHS}

Seems very surprising there's that much of a gap - Ratatouille was delayed too but I think there was only a two / three month gap. Waiting til October seems like a ridiculously large gap - am very much looking forward to seeing it in the cinema, but they seriously can't think people aren't going to pirate when the audience is treated like this.

They're making a film about a package courier?!

Such a huge gap in release dates is only going to hurt there profits in the long run so the studios must be out of their minds pulling this stunt. DVD quality copies are going to be viewable at a monitor near you long before this movie gets a release here lol.

Then again wasnt ET like a couple of years late in getting a cinema release this side of the pond?

they've done this with all the pixar films.

You could have bought the finding nemo dvd in the US when it reached EU shores.

Not sure why they do it. It could be because they produce fewer prints then most other films and focus on a long term run in the US and then move the prints over to the UK/Irish market after the run is done.

I could be wrong but I think this happens a lot with Pixar films, Ratatouille and Incredibles were both released in October too instead

all pixar films get a delayed release in the UK, the only change recently is a move from focusing on a Autumn/spring release to a spring/autumn release.

    There are only two exceptions

    TOY STORY: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114709/releaseinfo

    BUGS LIFE: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120623/releaseinfo

    TOY STORY 2: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120363/releaseinfo

    MONSTERS INC: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0198781/releaseinfo

    FINDING NEMO: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266543/releaseinfo

    CARS: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317219/releaseinfo

    Ratatouile: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382932/releaseinfo

    They all have delayed releases

Only The Incredibles and Wall E got something close to a worldwide release

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382932/releaseinfo

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317705/releaseinfo

applies to a few other disney films aswell

    and

I'm probably going to order the Region 1 DVD. That way there's no piracy involved and get to see it for less than the cost of a trip for two to the cinema.

Maybe this strategy worked a decade ago, but I can't see how continues to these days.

Still, as I recall, Pixar movies make most of their money outside America? Though that may just have been Wall-E, which was - as mentioned above - almost a worldwide release.

Yeah I remember this happening and when I was on Holidays there was merchandise for Finding Nemo everywhere and I had never heard of it. As people have said this used to be common place (didn't almost every movie have a delayed release over here?) but with piracy now it's only going to hurt themselves.

Doesn't explain how Russia gets prints on the 28th of May (the day before the US!), with the likes of Romania, Greece and France (not to mention Singapore and New Zealand) all getting the film beofre August. Its more like they pull countries and dates out of a hat.

There was a trailer for this before Coraline. Synedoche, Let the Right One In and Gran Torino were all available in high quality formats before being released here. Are studios trying to shoot themselves in the foot for no discernable reason?

Didnt really bother Ratatouilles sales though?

I think Disney are relying on piracy rarely involving family units or young children, specifically online piracy. While piracy from the back of a van would put a dent in their sales, the sort of torrent downloading that plaques other major releases wouldnt have as big of an impact on Theatre as pixar films would be family trip/events viewing and would get alot of its income from there.
