hi guys...me and my friend are planning a little trip to london and paris! dates looking like:
    • wed 29/07/09 flight into heathrow
    • stay 7 nights in central london
    • thurs 06/08/09 euro train to paris
    • monday 10/08/09 fly back to ireland.
Just a few questions. nothing major!!

The train from London St. Pancreas to Paris is £51 pounds one way...cant seem to find it cheaper and was wondering if i could get it for less?

More importantly thought we are looking to stay in a hostel in both london and paris. I've never stayed in a hostel, and none of my friends were in a hostel in these cities so no reccomondations from friends to go on.

I'm looking for reccomondations for hostels in central london, near a tube stop in a nice location. Any one have any personal experiences? My friend is a music student so anywhere with a few places with a gig location would be nice. She is talking about somewhere near Bricklane but i would prefer something closer to the city.

I stayed in a hotel in holborn twice last year but trying to keep the costs down and stay in a hostel. I found the location excellent, safe and easy to get to, two stops from Liverpool Station etc. So a hostel in a location like this would be great.

As for Paris, I havn't been there since i was ten and my friend was never there so we both know nothing about the city really. Basically this is the accomadation I'm concentrating on getting right but have no clue whatsoever about!

Sorry about length but I'm so excited and having a good place to stay will make things so much easier!

    Really appreciate any replies!:)

YHA Central hostel in London is the business, right beside great portland st tube (i think) rooms are really nice, key card 24h access, nice bar/common area, and about 20pounds pp a night, we got a 4 bed ensuite dorm for around 80 pounds in total, it might work out cheaper to book on a different website than the actual YHA one, think we used hostelbookers or host hostelworld and it was a little bit cheaper

£51 is the only available price. usually there are a variety. yeah its a good price but was just wondering because the flight from Cork to London Heathrow is about €35 including taxes etc and from Paris to Cork is about €46 total.
We could fly but i want to see the Chunnel(I'm a structural engineering student!):)

I went that route last summer tbh £51 is really good cos i paid 75 one way last year. London Backpackers in hendon is really good place to stay ive been there a few times always great crack there and the staff are really friendly its about 20 mins from central london on the northern line and its cheap enough.. tesco is only 5 mins away aswell as for paris the latin quatre is da best place to stay i reckon.. we stayed in a place in la chappel called friends hostel and it was horrendis:mad::mad: rats and everything but if ya want a good place its a lil more expensive have a look at hostel world and check the reviews for it.. a lil tip if there are only a few of yas going dont get into a 7 seater taxi in paris cos ya will get stung with paying for the 7 seats get into a smaller 5 seater cos its not as expansive:) oh disney land is a waste of a day but if your going bring your student card cos its €20 cheaper

Don't forget that the train drops you into the centre of Paris, not 90Km outside, plus it is a much nicer experience. If you are feeling flush, try an upgrade to leisure plus. Nicer seats, a meal etc. Much nicer than crammed into a plane for a couple of hours.
