Sorry if this was discussed already.
Danger Mouse (from Gnarls Barkley) is having a few issues with EMI with his new compilation. Sounds like a good compilation-haven't got a chance to listen yet. He has a fair list of guests on it:
Iggy Pop, The Strokes' Julian Casablancas, The Pixies' Frank Black, Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys, and Nina Persson of The Cardigans.

That's quite interesting. Giving a blank CD instead of an album and saying use it as you will is a pretty big two fingers to EMI.

It sounds great on first listen. That CD-R and photo booklet will be a real collectors item

Anyone know anything more about this beyond vague 'legal issues'?

Ah right. People were telling me this story and completely missed out the details, it wasn't until I read the above that it's obvious the music is available around the internet...so... y'know... take the blank cd-r and make your very own Danger Mouse album. Good thinkin' that guy.

I can only guess that EMI own the rights to the recordings and weren't up for a release, but there's nothing to stop the young man in question from releasing something himself (unless he has a painful contract.)

It'll be interesting to hear all the facts

Just heard Iggy's track on Paul McAloon's show - sounded good!

Do these major record companies not have any PR department? Can they be any more detestable? This whole debacle is only going to achieve more fans for Danger Mouse and less people willing to purchase anything from the record companies

Honestly, not the full details. I know there's some history between Danger Mouse and EMI (they wouldn't allow him to release his Grey Album, as it sampled the Beatles' White Album)
Sounds to me like they are trying to get a larger slice of the pie. It is speculation, but I'm sure when the truth comes out, it will come down to a large record company's greed.
